A guy i know even took a size cobia in the swan river, so nothing is impossible these days.. it doesn't surprise me that a few red throat and coral trout are getting caught that far south
went up to jurien on the weekend caught 10 spangled emperor. they were small 15cm biggest went 32cm. all in 3-5m water fight awewsome on 1000 reel strong fish.
Like you, we are really keen to monitor what is changing and whether fish are shifting where they live. I have been hearing so many reports and whisphers around the place of some strange catches. I need everyone's help to take photos of these unexpected and unusual catches and logging a report on the Redmap website www.redmap.org.au. The info reported will form part of a national long-term monitoring program to study the implications of warming oceans and fluctuating conditions - plus you can see what everyone else is coming across right around Australia. Already this year we have had two other reports of red-throat emperor off Mindarie and Two Rocks. Also, one of the fish was 30 cm!
If anypne has any questions or trouble logging in or making a report drop us a line a wa@redmap.org.au. Thanks for your support. Mike

Speaking of unexpected
Speaking of unexpected catches, I had a baby rankin cod eating my burley near Lancelin on the weekend.
And on a dive previous, I shot a Cobia off the back of a massive ray there too
Certainly some weird fish appearing further south than expected
