Utterly ridiculous
Took some friends from sydney for a fish this morning out the back of FFB having launched at Cockburn, had a great day after some generous berleying with plenty of fish boated and released. A stonka of a harlequin kept for tea and some massive bust off's on drift baited mulies, one definitely a snapper with the vibrating head shakes and one almost certainly a very very large sambo which nearly pulled the lady guest overboard with an unstoppable run.
What spoilt the whole day was the complete and utter mongrel who, on an ocean which was littered with just two boats, motored directly at us coming within 25 metres clearly pinging the spot we are anchored on, obviously saw the bottom lit up with fish and didn't just ping the spot he bloodywell dropped anchor within easy casting distance. The guests on my boat thought the little red cross on my GPS was the same on everyones GPS and when I explained the realities, that those crosses were the result of many hours of exploration he wanted me to pull the pick and go and have a go at the mongrel ............bluntly I wasn't prepared to waste my breath abusing people with no ethics whatever. If it was you (and I have a photo of the boat and it's extremely close proximity which I am tempted to post on here for all to see) then hopefully this might just prick your conscience, on second thoughts you probably dont have one

I dont meen to sound rude but, is it possible he had done exploration in the area also and you both happened to be there on the same day??
It has happened to me before.
Go to your favourite spot and theres someone sitting right on top of it.

Even if he had previously
Even if he had previously marked the spot, its not common courtesy to pull up right next to another boat regardless. What is wrong with peoples sense of desency lately?
Go try to find another spot to fish on untill the other boat has left "your" spot.

Sorry Guys.. It happens
It's like a dog or a cat laying it's mark. Others will follow and there is no claim to territory I am afraid. maybe the pinger was the original pisser? So why do the youngies here say post the pic? Just get over it.
Same thing happens on the beach and lack of tollerence can often result in a blue. Sorry mate.. shit happens.

The first boat shouldnt move, he was there first on the day.
the new boat that motored up to the original boat shouldnt drop anchor or set up a berley trail near him in the first place.

Why move the boat?
If everyone is at a comfotable distance then what's the hassle? If things get too close well then I guess it comes down to personalities and arrogance for the pricks who decide to muscle in. Life is all about respect for others. Sure; there are some real wankers around. At 40 meters in a swell it's kind of frustrating but gives the chance to bang chests without incident. On the beach it's different. Again, remember that we all like to get to our favourite spots but sometimes we have to find another. Stay smart and safe guys.

For me if someone anchors or drifts a couple hundred metres away, no problem. But i'm not a massive fan of having been anchored, set a berley trail and maybe catching something, only to have someone come that (30-50 odd metres) close to me. Not in a big area like FFB or say he 3 mile stretch.

I think you have to be
I think you have to be prepared to move on if someone is already on a spot you like, having said that, if it is a bigger site what distance apart at anchor is "cool". 30m , 50m, 100m????
Even more so when a boat is displaying a dive flag. Nothing quite as surprising as seeing a bit of lead and bait fly past you. Some guys must think that fish are exhaling to make all the bubbles on the surface.

Ha Ha we have had pingers
Ha Ha we have had pingers too. Funny though because we just have a fish around. They probably thought they had pinged themselves a great spot.
Hubby gets a bit upset if they park themselves so close that they are in our anchor swing. It means we have to shorten the anchor rope and possibly drag a bit in the current.

if they anchor that close
if they anchor that close they derserve to have their boat hit , not with your boat either , a nice sharp jab to the side with the gaff . plenty of ocean so why come so close especially when you have a yak on anchor. no respect

weekday fishing
I guess thats why I love going out during the week, you can be out all day and only see one boat, on the move and off in the distance. The only time I have had problems is on the weekend, and then I had to laugh as the bottom wasnt anything special, I was just drifting while I sorted out my gear.
I would rather be fishing

Enough agro
Wow, it seems we have all been the subject of this sort of activity however, having been on holiday (Phuket) for the last couple of weeks and only returning last week I have only just caught up with all the posts on the site generally whilst I have been away. Having done so I must say it causes me concern that I see personal attacks on the views of some web site members..........we are a family here, we are ALL entitled to a view / opinion and what makes this web site so different from several others I could mention has been the real spirit of comradarie (??spelling) so evident here and the willingness to help others new to the game. With that in mind I will not post the photo, if he is a site member then he knows who he was as there were so few on the water yesterday.
Let us keep this site positive and friendly which was what drew me to it in the first place ........coincidences do happen, we might indeed have been in a spot he had previously found and marked himself, the back of FFB has some brilliant structure but it is isolated so perhaps it is not such an unusual circumstance. I personally would never have anchored so close to another craft but that's my ethical approach, I suppose they might have thought two streams of burley were better than one. Again thanks for the responses -it further evidences the quality of people that enjoy this site

Disregard the boat on a
Disregard the boat on a yakker comment, seems the boat ws doing a drift in the same area as its a good spot for him,,in the pre gloom dawn he thought the yakker was drifting as well as could not see any anchor rope,(still darkish) called out to the yakker a couple times to ask if he was drifting also but got no reply ,,as he got closer he realised the kayaker was in a fixed position and moved off,,,perfectly good explantion, alway two sides of the story.

Just commenting, but most people have more than 1 spot to fish.
If someone is in close proximity to a spot im heading to, i head to another spot. Just common curtesy.

Ditto Bodie
I think occurences like this are all too common these days. But hopefully airing them online may well educate a few as to what is deemed common courtesy.
Personally it makes my blood boil when boats bee line me from afar in the middle of the ocean, then follow me to the next spot as I move away. Not much I can do about it other than to keep moving.
The only defence is to keep exploring and find lots of alternate spots to fish.
Sure some may be better than others, but by spreading the effort around you give your best spots a chance to recover and if I see someone on or close to one of my spots I make a big detour and fish somewhere completely different. If I am desperate to fish that particular spot I might head past on the way back in and if nobody is around I will fish it.
The worst offender so far pinged me from 5 metres away and had the cheek to say "Hi guys, our gps is busted, are you catching any around here?" as he watched us put a 20kg plus Dhuie into the esky.
Cheers

Beach
Was fishing off a beach with a mate down from Margaret River when spotted a light on a three wheeler bike come down the track then turn towards where we were.Quickly we buried our fish [2xgood mullas and a shark just leaving a few herring out.Sure enough it was who we thought it would be,he stopped and asked how we were going stating "we wouldn't tell him anyway and probably buried the fish so he couldn't see them".How right he was, parked right on top of them.
We told him after the weigh in for the comp what we'd done,he was pissed as he'd gone some 2 miles further away and caught nothing worth weighing in

Agree with that brody .If i can hit your boat with a 24 oz sinker (and i will)your too close go some where else for an hour and try a different spot regardless as to whose great grandad gave the spot to your dad who past it on to you at your 21 st birthday .Its a bloody big ocean if your coming that close to someone your pinging their spot if you have it marked well no harm in coming back a bit later .

A Lesson in life Skills
This is a really interesting thread and excuse me for having some input on several occasions. Personally, at times, I am a really agro bastard so to speak and I have experienced similar problems many a time. As I have posted before I think the best way for me now is to abuse and run so to speak. The bad experience posted here originally to create this thread is another example of how life is, not just on the water. There are a lot of inconsiderate wankers out there and let's face it; it makes for a great group discussion over way too many beers to come up with a fix for this. LOL.
