Walpole Trip

Just a quick report from the trip down to Walpole over the weekend. We mainly fished the inlets due to a fairly large swell.

The whole system is alive with all sorts. We used plastics and jigs for the whole weekend.

we caught Whiting, Flathead,Bream, Flounder and more Herring than you could poke a stick at and a few Salmon.

The mouth was fairly easy to get out of and we could make it about 500m out around the first couple of points before the swell started to roll through. The first couple where sheltered from the headland. We where catching some undersize pinkies out there aswell.

Crabs where around aswell but not in huge numbers.

Sorry no photos. Some of the flatties where big fish 50-60cm.

Cheers Jayce

No mate not this time. This was just a fishing trip and meant to get some marron. But by the time we got out of the boat each arvo we went strait to the pub for a feed and stayed till close haha. I do have some reliable spots down there though just gotta wait for winter and the snakes to disapear.

I missed a mob by about 2 hours the other morning so i know where they are closer to home at the moment. I will be over your way next break i think.

Yeah it could get fairly average down there but we had swell rolling in from south west so it was fairly protoected then. Was a little bit of chop where the inlet water and sea water was meeting. Just watch it for a bit and work out whats going on and you will be right.

It will be agreat place for you ski Moking. You should be able to get out of the mouth easy as and have a play around.

The scenery is Amazing mate from the water strait up jarrah covered hills. with granite out crops.

Most lures worked for us Berkley sub dogs where a stand out and Kato Carnage where the go for flatties.

If you want herring go strait out to the mouth and fish the channel from Garys Jetty to the mouth they where fighting to get our lures.

Around the back of skippy rock was good for whiting and flatties and of coarse the herring that we couldnt get away from.

If you watch your sounder when going through the river from the first pond into the second there is a drop off of about 1m that would be worth a crack with some plastics aswell. Its just south of Rest Point.

The salmon where on Maria Blues Code sinking stick baits They took that over all the other chromes and plastics we had out.

Thanks for all the info, especially which lures to use.Very much appreciated.

I'll mainly be catch/release,just looking forward to enjoying myself down there, and yes getting out the mouth and will be fun on the Ski.

Hopefully I can stay away from the herring,I catch enough of them around here.

Cheers for the report. I'll be down there on the houseboat for a week from Monday :) Have fished the place many years now and hoping to get stuck into some light tackle shark action in the estuaries and the franklin. Seems to always be gummies down there. Live Herring fished under a float/balloon with some light wire are the trick for anyone interested ;)

Denmark

Fri, 2014-02-14 16:22

 Hello everyone.

Would love to take my son down to Denmark this Easter and for him to land his first Salmon.

Hooked a few on light gear while chasing Herring but was busted off each timeon the rocks due to the light gear.

Are there many herring about down there at the moment.

Any tips on type of gear, bait, lures or burley would be greatly appreciated.

Pete.

Is the fishing any good at Bornholm beach once you get in there?

Try any of the rocks around

Fri, 2014-02-14 21:06

Try any of the rocks around from ocean beach. Most places will be packed at easter but the salmon should be in full swing.

You could use most rod/reel combos to catch them it all just depends on your confidence. We sometimes drop back to bream gear for a laugh.

If your new to it a 10-12ft rod with a medium size spin reel and some 20-30lb braid should do the trick.

Rigs are varied. Standard paternoster with a gang hook and a whole mulie or small herring.

you can just bait cast mulie and herring for them.

big chrome high speed lures work well.

The sky is the limit mate. If they are around they generally arnt fussy.

If you have a 4wd maybe try parrys beach or peaceful bay. they often produce salmon.
