there should be a rule in place that members

leaves a bad taste
saw Moe_01 was online last night. Hopefully he'll come good.
maybe Adam can put up some sort of paypal system because there are so many sales going on now. It might mean a cost involved, but a small price to pay to guarantee payment and delivery.

Yeh but at the end of the day, the sale was done between the buyer and the seller. The forum was a medium for advertising.
Personally I think there's something dodge going on seeing that Garry has waited more than 3wks for the item.
Yes I agree a system of some sort for new members before they can advertise anything.
Im advertised for a mate becoz he works away and has limited internet access.

Ring your bank. That is fraud. The banks aren't fond of this type of thing and the cops can be quite aggressive in tracking down the person.

The banks won't do a thing
The banks won't do a thing if you used direct deposit, they may give a slight shit if you used CC but you didn't.
Your best bet is the cops, be prepared to ring a few to get someone that will do anything about it.

I've sold a fair bit of stuff recently over Fishwrecked, but will only sell to guys locally who come to look at the gear and have a feel of rods loaded up etc before i take any cash...
I have had a number of PM's and calls from guys over east who sounded dodgy, a few ligit, but wouldn't want the hassle of things going wrong..
Without insurance and any form of security I would have to think hard about giving cash to someone over east / seas.

I have bought and sold
I have bought and sold thing's through fishing forum's never had an issue but I will admit that when buying I pay cash on pickup but people who have bought thing's from me have transferred money to my account. I wouldn't think of "stiffing" anybody on good's I have sold them and if I was due to flyout I would make arrangements to drop the good's off before I flew out or post it to them before I left. It come's down to the nature/integrety of the person selling the good's I suppose.

Scumbag....
Hopefully there is a bloody good reason for the delay in receiving the antenna..
Just a thought, would there be anyway of tracking this guy from his ISP address etc... not sure if this would be encoded anywhere within the forum ???
Computer tech guys and "geeks" out there - any idea ??
You would then be able to pass details to the fraud sqaud !

That sucks but.......
That is really unfortunate mate and sad to hear that someone on this forum has perhaps ripped off another member.
I have sold and bought stuff on this site and a couple of others. I have neer had a problem (touch wood) and all members have been very good to deal with. Hopefully this bloke is away and has not been able to get in touch with you. You have to be able to deal in good faith on these sites or else the buy/sell features will be useless. Hopefully it is one bad apple and it wont spoil the rest.
I think it is up to each member to vet who they do the deal with. Ask yourslef have they been on the site for a while, do others know the person. If both of these questions are no or if a large sum of money is involved perhaps don't do the deal unless you can see the item/person in the flesh. It should not be up to Adam to patrol these sales or vet people.

Rating system
Is there a way of setting up a rating system where other members who know you or people who buy from you "rate your reliability". Sorry to hear about the delay/loss Blank Cheque maybe he'll come good.

spewn
Spewing Garry, very unfortunate and the first case I've heard on FW in 5 years of operation.
I will look into alternative options for ensuring safe sales, maybe a paypal system where you pay $10 to become a seller, register all your details (paypal has a recourse system) and then everyone should be safe to purchase/sell. (The money will be used to put in a rating system for those that do regular trades)
Just a thought..
Cheers,
Adam

Cheers Adam
I was going to contact you after speaking with police tomorrow. Dont like my chances but its who you know these days that goes a long way. At no stage do I hold Fishwrecked responsable. Its just one of those scumbag things that happen in life. What comes round goes round I say his turn will come.

No probs
No probs Garry, I'm happy to provide his email address and IP to the cops if that helps any. Just let me know what I can do and will try to assist, I won't block him just yet to see if he comes back online - but will ensure that theres no postings from him selling items.
Will start looking into new safety measures soon.
Cheers,
Adam

Link case numbers ...
When you speak to the police try to find out if there are any other fraud issues that relate to this person and ask that your case number be linked to these (should there be any). I had a similar experience (not FW) with a multiple fraudster and through linking other victims case numbers the profile of the situation was raised and resourced to enable the arrest and jailing of the offender together with a court order for refunding victims. Chances are if this person has ripped you off it will not be the first time.

Always one out there
Sad state of play today, all ways someone who will come up with a scam, it works and Garry or someone misses out, the fallout is that we all start to worry about doin business on web, my only advice is deal in cash and do pickups, just drove all the way up to Matts shop to pick up auction wins and pay cash, happy camper drives home with gear ( sorry Jody ) but no problems, so put your self out and use cash!!

Spoke with this guy yesterday afternoon.
He has advised me that he sent it several weeks ago and that he thought I had it that’s why he never replied to my many missed phone calls.
He called me back yesterday evening and advised me he placed the wrong post code on the package and it was returned, his house mate resent it for him about one and a half weeks ago but never told him about it. He has given me a tracking number for the item but when I checked the number it not registered. Taking into account Oz post doesn’t scan all items I will have to wait until Tuesday now and phone and talk to someone from oz post.

Good Luck
1. He looses your address
2. Wrong post code
3. House mate resent it and he didn't know. How did the house mate know what the correct post code was?
4. Tracking number doesn't work.
Good Luck!!

Good News
David phoned again on Saturday to see how things were going and I explanned that it had not arrived and now I will have to wait until tuesday to speak to someone from oz post.
Well when I rang them this morning they advised me that it was at my local post office and it was due for delivery today.
So Adam you may want to pull this thread. Thanks guys for your support just reading through the comments is the reason why I never thought twice on buying through the site.
Thanks again

Excellent news
Excellent news Garry. Great to hear mate, glad that we still haven't had a bad incident since operation.
That still won't stop me looking into ways to over come the issue though. I am trying to create an authorised sellers badge (similar to the donations badge that will show in people's avatar) to show that they have given me their details and can be trusted to send the gear they are offloading. I think I will charge a fee of $20, then get their name, address, phone number and drivers license number and store it in a database if its ever needed.
Cheers,
Adam

good idea,
another rule that might be worth consideration is to limit it to boating, fishing and diving epuipment... seems to be alot more posts from people trying to sell other things like cars, fridges, air conditioners etc lately...the quokka is the best place for that type of gear, not a fishing forum - in my opinion.

Good stuff
Garry, glad to hear everything worked out, and David (Moe_01) is is not one of these guys who's out there to rip people off
I guess maybe a bit more communication from David, ensuring Garry had received what he paid for would have been good - but maybe there were reasons he was unable to...

Hi Ya, Wouldn't put it
Hi Ya,
Wouldn't put it past Oz post to have screwed up either.
My missus buys a lot of stuff Ebay. On no less than three occasions she has not received the goods only to find that they have been sitting in the Oz Post warehouse waiting for us to collect them but they never bothered to tell us the stuff was there to collect.
On one other occasion I purchased a replacement stereo system for my car from a crowd in Victoria. Exactly the same thing happened, so that is four times Oz Post has screewd up. Each time registered post.
Cheers.
