WC future is dark n gloomy....

Gday fellas,
How does one post pictures on this site?
Just back from a Hunting trip in NZ, if anyone is interested i'll post my first ever pic on here like a big boy...
I couldnt be fucked reading the 200 new messages on the footy thread and WC do seem to deserve their own thread...
Jacky boy, I think if the hawks smoke WC this week then surely the hammer will come down on a few heads in different departments at the club...
List management
Medicos
Footy Dep all need a clean out...
Harley Reid the gun that will be next years no.1 pick must be hoping he doesnt end up in the west as Its going to be a lengthy rebuild this one me thinks!
My thoughts only of course!

Yep...hopefully Freo can make a decent game of it, not get blown away by 100 pts like some teams.
West coast will be back next year, get some injured players back, plus a few picks in the draft should be all good to go no worries.

You are dreaming
You are dreaming Brocko....
They have a hand full of players that would get a game at another club....
This will be a lengthy rebuild, remembering there is no point floundering in the middle of the pack like so many do....
IMO a rebuild means getting to the point you can actually have a crack at a flag....
Freo will go well....
Howdy Dave, are you down south soaking up some sun mate?
Yep you are right Andy, Hawks will be down that end for a couple or years I think, once the core group get a decent amount of games into them then I reckon they'll be in a flag window soon enough for long enough....
If there are any WC supporters that want $20 on this game i'll give you 10 points in.....

It does seem that the Eagles have a long road ahead
Yeah, the injury list is a mile long and hasnt been managed well, so that should be taken into account (and addressed). You would think maybe 5 more years outside the top 8 before they are a threat again?
After that flogging from the Suns, I can't see them beating the Hawks in Tassie, but both teams are shit atm, so it's possible and I hope Andy collects on the bet with Boon lol.
Are we back to "Flagmantle" now?

In 5 years time?
They haven't had a top ten pick since Gaff, the only way they'll be any good in 5 years is if they win the spoon for the next couple before Tassie comes in and sweeps the draft...
Will Harley want to come West will be the question.

Except for Ginbey who was pick 9 lol. As I've mentioned in the other thread, I can’t see West Coast drafting Reid but instead splitting it into 3x first round picks then offering English a godfather huge money free agency deal that is heavily front ended so we are paying him less as our emerging group of high draft picks begin entering their prime.
Talking of shit list management I notice you went a bit quiet when I mentioned Wingard for pick 15, 35 and Burton and a 4 year free agency deal for Amon who is basically an AC Cola version of Gaff in the other thread.

The coach still has to get the best out of the hand they are dealt.... It certainly isn't his fault, but when you are beaten by over 100 points by the last team on the ladder, you certainly aren't helping the issue!! He appears to be extrememly flat to me!!

well how hard would it be to
well how hard would it be to get motivated every week , and be up bouncing about mentally ?/
the bloke has a world of hurt going on with very limited ability to make changes
he has ahuge injury list almost unprecedented at the club
his recruiting managers have srewed up from about 2 years before they did the kelly trade
they kept too many senior players
recruited too mnay b grade young players who are really not quite good enough for WAFL contention
now simmo is being expected every week to take the only 26 b grade WAFL young undercooked , inexperienced players , and transport them into some sort of cohesive, star team that can win every second week with the attitude of lions
and if thats not bad enough he is very limited to what he can say at pressers, every time ,
he cant whinge , he cant blame anyone else, he has to try to carry the whole shite show publicly
far out
we could drop the top 4 AFL COACHES in , sack simmo and it still wont turn it around this year imo ,,
not asking too much is it of the bloke
and dont get me started on the idiot that is don punch ,, another shite show being run by mclown , slow train wreck coming , that we will have to all wear

No doubt!
It would be very hard! No doubting that. But that is the role of the coach in my view.
You have to get the best effort out of the list you have to play with each week. If you aren't getting any effort from a whole list who should essentially be playing for their future, you aren't performing. As you have said, it is also clear that the issues run much deeper.

Don't think the trip down
Don't think the trip down there is easy on any team and Hawthorne do play well there.
I don't know much about WC list, but seriously there's a real effort issue there, you would think any young player getting a run in any AFL side would be running is ass off but its just not happening.
Back to Back WOODEN SPOONS...Geez i like the sound of that!! Wet toast can joke about our trophy cabinet but now they will have the wood on us for sure.

Simmo
Simmo wants to sit them all down and remind them that its not only his job on the line because right now every other side and coach is looking at who performs and who is dragging their feet and if they are dumped at season end there won't be any one willing to pick them up.
This is a real chance after their last insipid performance.

The WA media love it...Ross Lyons was hunted hard, was it his fault, his coaching style, his list and selection ?? But no its not Simmo's fault.
Barrich coming out last night in defense. The eagles cant afford to sack him, and nothings going to change anyway. Will get a few injured players back next year and might get of the bottom of the ladder just, all going well.
Bombers this week will be hungry as fk and there crowd will be ruthless....let alone next week V Pies at home, will be interesting to see how many turn up..let alone stay till full time.

I think the coach needs to
I think the coach needs to be scrutinised very closely but to sack him mid-season will only make matters worse. I think this fish is definitely rotting from the head down. A mate has been involved in recruiting at WC for a long time and he has been gradually but clearly sidelined due to being too old school. Wants kids that have skills and can play footy rather than athletes that can supposedly be taught how to play the game. I know a couple of player managers and they have also questioned the approach that has been taken.
IMO it's time for a serious cleanout but who will oversee that objectively? When the board is not appointed by members or their representatives, it's just a boys club where they all look out for one another. Being accountable from the bootlacer to the CEO and President has worked at Richmond, and looks to be working at Collingwood. WCE don't have to look too hard for some possible answers.

My apologies Frosty, I
My apologies Frosty, I didn't see the Wingard comment....
That was a decision that went badly for Hawthorn but in reality Burton has done fuck all and is just another defender where as Wing was/is a match winner on his day but you are right it didnt work...
Hawks like every club have had plenty - Ty Vickory is another that comes to mind...
Sometimes tough decisions have to be made - Treloar and Grundy at the pies could very well go down as the two ballsiest list management decisions of all time if they win the flag this year.... Could also backfire if they meet a fit Gawn and Grundy Melb outfit in Finals....
I don't begrudge the Eagles last year having another crack but they should have showed several blokes the door this year and picked up some more youngsters....
Shuey remaining Capt is also a very strange decision in my mind.....
I'm not sure chasing English will solve anything, he is another injury prone player....
You need a heap of B+ players not a couple of expensive A graders who will be the next crop of spoilt C&%Ts which seems to be the current culture at the Eagles.....
The Hawks paying 1.30 was a gift, I see the bombers are paying 1.04..... Still worth opening your kids money boxes, selling your house, draining your super and getting that 4% return

A Hawthorn supporter lecturing other supporters about club culture after actively avoiding drafting Indigenous players for 50 years and then mistreating those that do eventually make the cut… looks like Trevor Nisbett may have found a new CEO job although I am unsure if he owns a white hood so he may not fit the bill lol.

I think there are clearly
I think there are clearly fundamental problems at WCE that need to be addressed around recruiting and getting those recruits up to AFL standard. There are so many players there that have had plenty of chances and are just not good enough. Compare that to a player like Ginbey who runs rings around so many experienced and inexperienced Eagles players. Conditioning is another area that needs a lot of work.
The Swans lost 26 consecutive games in '92/93 and I don't think WCE will take that from them Boon. It might not come until late in the season when a few experienced guys come back but I'm hoping the drought can be broken then. I agree that next year is looking prett ordinary unless some of the younger guys can take a step up. There is likely to be (should be) a bunch of retirements at the end of the season.

Chesser looks a long way from
Chesser looks a long way from being even a B grade player. To think we could have grabbed Hobbs, Johnson, Jacob van Rooyen... time will tell I guess when he gets a decent run at it.
I like the way Hough goes about it and I think Bazzo and Long were late pick steals but guys like Putridchelle, O'Neil, Rotham, Foley, Edwards, Clarke and West are all just list cloggers we are stuck with by trying to be clever with our drafting and that old chestnut of not taking Geelong's 2018 offer of Kelly for Brander plus our pick 18.
It's going to take patience and time to turn that middle mushy part of the list over which is why we'll still need some senior guys like Yeo around to be onfield leaders and protect the younger players.
One thing I've loved this year is seeing the emergence of Oscar as a key forward and the way he takes a mark at the highest point possible is insane unlike Darling who does this weird hybrid mark with palms pointed out but tries to take it on this chest. Either take a chest mark or mark it out in front you goose!!

Will they win more or less games next year?
I'm thinking they won't win another game for about 3 years.
It's kinda got to the point where a 50 point loss at home seems like a win.
I hope I'm wrong, I don't like seeing any club flounder but feels like by the time they turn things around the draft pool could be affected by Tassie and their current good young players like Barrass and Allen will be getting to the other end of their careers.
List management for a few years is key....

Less in 2024 and again in 2025 and likely the same in 2006.
We'll bring in Devon Robertson cheap this year via trade and will have millions to throw at free agency over the next 3 years along with building our list with high draft picks.... if we get them right.
If there was the ability to turn back time to the Kelly draft, Gov on big $ etc I'd still back what the club did because a flag in the hand trumps a potential two.
In my egg on face Pies thread I was all for trading out Gaff and Darling in 2021. Too late now as neither player has currency.
If you wanna place a wager on us not winning another game for 3 years I'll gladly stump up...
