Just back from a Hunting trip in NZ, if anyone is interested i'll post my first ever pic on here like a big boy...
I couldnt be fucked reading the 200 new messages on the footy thread and WC do seem to deserve their own thread...

We were an absolute basket
We were an absolute basket case during the Ken Judge days when we found ourselves in the same position as today i.e. hanging onto older players too long. The difference was then that we made quick and decisive moves to turn things around but we were fortunate in a few areas like finding Cox and Embley in the rookie draft, already having Cuz and then essentially swapping Gehrig for Kerr and bringing in Judd which formed the core of our 06 flag.

Interesting to listen to the point of view of Andrew Embley on the radio yesterday on the way home from work and he raised the same point about Nostat going onto the inactive list, Embley believes WC are in a huge hole financially and could not afford to list another player. Alot more to the story of course as the problems run way deeper.
Certainly going to be a rough few years for WC coming up.
They need a clean out from the top and a shift in attitude from the board as they may well be the next Carlton for years to come, Nisbett can not control the narrative and the media as he once did and times have changed.

We retired kennedy and Redden and Shepperd last year so I don't think having the money is the issue for a bloke we'd be paying base rate for. More like we don't want to be stuck paying another list clogger for next season like Jack Buller a forward who's kicked 8 goals in 6 games including one bag of 4 and managed 2 marks and 1.1 in the State game vs SANFL.
Everyone on the West Coast FB page is banging on about not picking up another player in the MSD but I'd challenge any of them to pick 5 players from the MSD over the past 5 years that it's been in effect would be in the best 22 of any of the top 8 sides. Off the top of my head I can only think of Newcombe, Pickett and Noble.

Biggest issue is paying top up players that are now injured as well paying the premium players who are injured so no real funds left for more top up players.
Would be interesting to read others take on why WC are carrying so many injuries.
I dont blame WC for going for broke when their window was open a couple of years ago, if not for a little more luck they would have won it again BUT they didnt and heads need to roll on those decisions.
Does Sinmpson have a rebuild left in him, I doubt it.

Yep its dark times ahead for the next 2-3 years but I also think that its the right time.
With the tassie team coming in and them getting the benefits from the AFL from 2025-26 for 2 years the top few picks in the draft will go to them just like GWS and GC respectively, so in reality getting pick 1 this year and next year is a blessing in disguise. I think they will trade that pick 1 to a Melbourne based team. The demons actually have 2 picks in the first round this year so if they get their 2 picks and say their first pick next year too then I think they will trade pick 1.
My thoughts.....
Players such as NicNat, Shuey and Hurn need to be un-selfish and retire. Whether they will or not is a different story but continiung on I see as selfish
Players with some sort of trade value should be shopped around.. Gaff, Mcgovern, Darling even Yeo. 2nd or 3rd rounder and move them on.
Delist players who just dont perform.. Petrevski seaton, Oneil, Williams, Clark just to name a few
Rebuild properly, go back to the draft, dont try trade in 26/27 year olds. Get the best 18-19 year olds available in the draft
