DECKEE APP issues?

I'm sure quite a few of you use the DECKEE app now, I'm curious about other peoples experiences with it?
I've had more fails than successes, and provided feedback to them on each occasion with screenshots etc which they've said they'll provide feedback and never have.

I'm wondering if its just me as I use it a little different with one way trips etc.

  1. first time trying to log on last year, it kept coming up with an error message and that I wasn't logged on about 10 times. Gave up and "logged on" with the missus instead and headed to the islands.
I had limited phone cover, but she got a late night call from the Water Police that I was overdue, and later I had numerous texts and missed calls similar. I rang Water Police and explained, they gave me the Deckee contact and they were interested-nothing further heard.
  2. Next time I tried it, I entered my coordinates for a return to Geraldton, and Batavia Marina showed a course from Southern Group to Dongara. Screenshotted, sent, they said they'd investigate and respond-nothing.
  3. Used it successfully a couple of times then a month or so back tried to log on and repeatedly wouldn't accept it. Call our VMR on CH82 and 16, and their radio was playing up, dropping out etc.
    Logged on by phone.
  4. yesterday tried again for coming back from Sthn Group, it showed my start point 1 and end 2, but the arrow of travel was backwards.

I'm happy just to use my missus to check in/off with but wouldn't want to be that bloke who "didn't log on but needed help".

Our VMR has had to move several times, and that's probably the main reason for their radio issues.

I've had issues with it - I feel like the app works well if you are in mobile reception the whole time and for a day trip. If you are out of mobile reception and/or if you are going to the islands for a few days and dont have mobile reception it causes problems. Also it becomes problematice if your phone over heats or runs out of battery.

These issues combined to my partner receiving a blunt phone call from Onslow Police, thinking I'd been lost at sea.

The app is not very intuitive and can be difficult to log on or log off or see if you have successfully logged in. It seems like it priortises strava type activity logging and 'community sharing' rather than making it an easy log in/log out service.

I dont mind that Deckee exists but it annoys me that it is the only means of logging in at a lot of places and you are therefore forced to use it.

Respectfully all Marine Rescue Groups will accept phone log on

Mon, 2026-09-14 17:01

Even for extended voyages. All are presently using Deckie and your voyage is visible to all MRCs.

If you are concerned with your deckie log on just call the nearest sea rescue group and they will manage.

Onslow sea rescue instructed

Wed, 2026-09-16 12:35

Onslow sea rescue instructed me to use the app as the stated they were not running a seperate log in service. This was in May of last year so may have changed.

I appriceate that the Deckee system is probably a lot less labour intensive for volunteer sea rescue groups. I'm just having a winge.

MRC run parallel logs

I think all on here would be utterly stunned at the cost Deckie want to charge DFES for using the app through marine rescue groups.  As a radio operator i love the app as, once you have logged on once with ALL of your details,  they reamin in the database greatly speeding up log ons from there on in ......great for the busy periods when crays are  running and over holiday periods.

I've no issue with making

I've no issue with making things easier for sea rescue, I'm very appriciative of all the efforts everyone in sea rescue puts in to help keep water users safe.

My issue is just with clunky elements of the App. Deckee is a for profit company, they seem to be positioning themselves to be a navioics/login service on the one platform and will probably try to secure deals with sea rescue groups then charge users subscription fees. Currently, for me mobile phones on the water do not provide a sufficent level of reliability or flexibility for this service. If I had a big boat with a dry cabin, a starlink and a brand new iphone it would probably be a different story.

At MRC we regularly get extended voyage log ons and we enter them onto Deckie and they are then viewable by ALL sea rescue groups.  For Us we can log in notes way more details of extended voyages so feel free to ring your details in

 I'm just documenting my

I'm just documenting my issues, no whinging or anything like that, EXCEPT the lack of any follow ups without multiple followup emails.

I'm happy to assist with improving the app and each time have provided screenshots and a detailed explanation, but I don't yet have full confidence in it.

If it can log me on while telling me its unable to to log me on, then its not a stretch to have the far more hazardous opposite situation.

And to be honest I have had issues with the old system, where I tried to log off at the marina, no response (not unusual as it was a bit of a deadspot to the old building), then forgot to do it at home and rang them nearly 5 hrs overdue at 9pm
