well,
they said it could not be done, boat a shark from the barges!!!
heres proof it can be done!!
headed out with a couple of mates on my boat, crushed and hoookt on the crusher for another day of punishment?
hit the south barge first up with a nice amber taken on a live squid
(the guy with the beard is the $100 bet man and he also payed up, for those who know) but he did land the first fish for the day.
moved on to checkout the other wrecks with many hookups and all busted off, so it was decided to try to get the sharks instead, but didnt plan on using my new xzoga and daiwa exerler.
got him to the boat twice and he wasnt ready just yet, on the third time we had him!! just as i was going to cut the line to release he went on another run and broke my reel, the drag whashers were shot by now anyway so we had to release him this time.
would of been all of 2.5mtrs.
yes i am having a rest in the pic, it was hard work.
after that it was time to move on to some shallow ground for sambos and all we got was small pinkys, 6 in the end as well as a sgt baker and a sea sweap.
good to meet daz out there as well, sorry daz not much time for talking with the shark on.. how did you end up for the day?

the exerler done very well mate, it was more our fault when it broke, i have got a new one coming anyway and will have to repair this one.
i hope you can get parts as it needs new drag washers now for shore.
but i did use my saltist ld 30 a bit more today and starting to like it.
we are sure it was a bronzie, but i dont know my sharks to well, there was no way i was going to gaff it to get my hooks back!!!!

Nice to meet you too Ron & well done on that Shark. Our sounder packed it in as soon as we got out there today. Nothing worse than getting out there & trying to fish blind. Ended up using the GPS to go over some shallow water wrecks & scored several puppy sambos & mini AJ.

Bad luck on the reel mate.As i have said before most of the ones i have seen to the boat are around the 8 foot mark(like yours) not many smaller and only a couple over 8 foot.Still waiting to see someone bring up a ten footer on their own.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

We got stuck into the sambos
We got stuck into the sambos but not at the main spots. They weren't as thick but didn't get sharked once. Did get burried a few times as the fish were hugging the bottom.

Was a great day shame about the sharks. Had another one mooching around after you left the barges Ron.
I thought I was going to experience my first tussle with a Sambo until it went PING after 5 secs, hadn't even loaded the rod up fully.
The alternative spots sans Greycoats would be the go, now just have to find them. a few days sounding seems on the cards.

Hey Marko, Did you like my hookup on the bow, someone had to show them how to do it! Pity it didn't last long. Hard day again but got a few up on the smaller spots. The 9 crays in the pots before helped make the day. We got a shark up the other day but definately was still green and had a lot more kick in it when it turned around and peeled another 100 mtrs of line when it saw the boat. Big fish. Can't wait till the 16th!!
I love fishing for dhuies, less expensive! Good to start seeing the guys out and getting to know the boats.
A good days fishing is better than ...........anything!

it was actualy cut free with a knife, just in front of the leader you can see, the reel broke as soon as the line was cut.
dont know how but i think it was from having so much pressure on it and when it was cut, the rebound of the cut broke it...(make sense) it was either that or we were lucky it broke at that excact moment.
the rod was fully loaded up when it was cut.
we called it boated!!! because there was no way we were bringing it on board and i didnt want to put a gaff into it.

i have met more members in the last 2-3 weaks than i have in 12 mths...
and i must say you all seem to be good peoples, must be the site and the quality work adam and co are doing.
somtimes you meet people and there is that awkward silence thing happening, not with f/w peoples.....evrey one dosnt mind a small chat if poss.

But it really did reinforce the need for trim tabs. I usually have more ballast to move around to stand her up.
would have been a lot more comfortable and quicker, but an extra 10 foot of boat and being glass might have something to do with that. One Powerball..

i have my cousin who has just got his rebuilt boat going and the big water test is on sunday.
will try to get some pics of his new ride with 90%of the work done by himself.
i am taking my boat along as a rescue boat in case it all turns to shit.
but i will try to get out for a squid on saturday.
