Weed at the beach

It seems every time I go down the beach to try and catch a Herring or Tailor I spend my whole time pulling weed off my line/lure before I give up.

Does anyone have any strategies for dealing with weed at the beach to help a beginner out?

I think that the only strategy is to fish on beaches without weed.

If you fish when there's an easterly wind then it should blow all the seaweed out to sea.

Single hooks on lures help when there's a small bit around, working different gutters along the beach can help

Sometimes you'll get a small widow in certain spots then  they'll fill up and you need to find the next clear bit of the gutter

Nothink worse than dragging in half a ton of weed and seeing its tangled your braid as well if it thick don't even bother!

Yep, as mentioned fish mornings when the wind blows offshore, should clear the weed up to a manageable level.

If you do want to persist through the weed, a very long rod (15 foot) and heavier line with big sinkers is the go, bomd it out as far as you can, hold your rod high and crank it in if you suspect there may be any trace of weed building on the line. If you leave it a tiny bit of weed can soon become a huge clump that will take you all night to bring in

Also switch to mono when there is weed around, especially when soaking baits

Braid and weed = tangles and no fun

 Personally I go the opposite.

Braid is thinner, allows you to keep a tighter line and cuts throught the water/wind better, catching less weed.

I agree braid and weed dont mix well but I use a long mono shock leader of about 10m and find basically all of the weed slides down on that whilst I can still fish braid for the reasons mentioned previously

Thanks for all the replies. It seems lots of weed = move somewhere else.
