A week in absolute paradise DIRK HARTOG ISLAND picture crazy!!
Submitted by Chris fish on Mon, 2013-04-08 16:39
Just got back from an insane week at dirk hartog with mates Tim and Podge, lots of sharks, massive grouper, unreal diving with sharks turtles, sea snakes. Just fish everywhere, never been to a place like it. Hooked so many Mack's on spin and either popper lines or sharked, watched a sailfish i hooked get sharked infront of me and so many more unforgettable moments.
this is my last fishing trip for a while so I'm selling all my fishing gear, everything I have so I can focus on other things so this trip was an awesome way to end an insane last 3 years of fishing with some truly memorable catches.

Looks like you had a superb trip mate, some great pics, thanks for sharing them.
I just got back recently from Denham and have to say that part of the country is amazing.
Can't wait till my boys are older as the point is definetley on my wish list.
Hey whats with the ironing board in one of the pics? trying to look good whilst fishing or
using it as a fillet board?

Wow
Some nice feeds there.
But mate, why would you sell your gear? Life taking you in another direction doesn't mean you cant get out for a fish every now and then.
I made that mistake years ago and turfed some gear (never turfed reels as I sort off collect them) and I regretted it. Most off the reels dont change that much and some off the oldies are as good now as they were then (just heavier!!!)
It reminds you about fishing having gear, and there is nothing like having a line in the briney to chill out, even little fish. Over easter had a blast with light gear on Slimey Macs at E shed. Threw them all back to the amazement of some off the crew there but it was nice just to fish for fun.
I would hang on to them, as second hand prices is nothing compared with getting a new pile.
And whats that with keeping the Axe handle (barracuda) as they truely suck eating and full off worms. Our cat loved them but I wouldnt eat that. By the way not a criticism just hoped it wasnt eaten!!!!
Cheers

Agree on not selling the gear
Agree on not selling the gear mate - great report otherwise!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I've ran out of realistic
I've ran out of realistic targets and I'm not going to have time to fish soon with my new job and have some other things I want to achieve. I'm booking another trip for dirk next year and will be getting all new gear before then so it's not the end just a break because all I've done for the last 3 years is fish non stop and I'm just running out of targets that I want to get. The last few months I've just spent my time getting others onto good fish and sharks and still having fun.
the Cuda was used as bait not eaten hahaha and those pinks and baldie where caught ballooning with gardies haha

Yep, unbelievable Chris, you
Yep, unbelievable Chris, you seem like one of those people that when they want to achieve something, they go hard at it and nail it, good luck with the next challenge, awesome post, what a trip!

This is just a selection of
This is just a selection of over 100 photos from the trip and less than a quarter of what we actually caught, pinkys where all getting thrown back after day 2 as we didn't want to fillet anymore and after filling a 65l engel with fillets on day 3 everything after was just catch and release. So many amazing sights and the most remote isolated place I've been, would recommend it highly to any keen landbased anglers that want to escape reality for a week.

Great report and photos
Thanks for the report and photos, it will be sad not to see any more of your reports/photos from now on, good luck with your new adventure.
I read your Salmon report and ended up catching 10 in Albany last week. Now seeing this report make me want to book Dirt Hartog straight away.
Do you think there will be similar species available up there in July?

gotta say you nailed it.
gotta say you nailed it. well done to you and the others . you certainly got a great bag of fish for your efforts.
i feel getting rid of your gear will be a big mistake. clean it all down and a good greese up and store it all away til your next trip. good gear is expencive and hard to replace.
good luck with your new venture and hope to see something on here every now and then. fishing is in your blood and it just wont wash out that easily.
