Well done again Fisheries people thank you
My local newspaper (Mandurah Mail) carries two stories this week about how effective our fisheries officers have been, on page 8 of the local paper there is a story about a Mr Ryan Earl who happened to have a set of jaws from a great white mounted on a wall, the police executed a search warrant and discovered the jaws.
Mr Earl earned himself a $5000 mandatory fine plus costs of $190.85 plus an additional fine of $100 oooch.
On page 22 of the paper it was reported also
Mr Jose Larioza earned the wrath of the courts when fisheries sprung him with 61 under size crabs which had an average size of 125mm legal min size is 127mm close to size is not good enough.
In the Mandurah court Mr Larioza was fined a mandatory fine of $3050.00 plus an additional $500.00 plus court costs of $190.85, expensive crabs.
Whilst the pollies take a winter break the guys and dolls of the fisheries don't
Well done good people.

Interesting about the jaws
Interesting about the jaws wouldn't have thought owning a set would be illegal there must be a lot around as i doubt many would have been thrown away have seen them advertised in the quokka before.

Just spit balling here and
Just spit balling here and in no way support the culling of Great Whites, could you argue that the jaws were from the 90s (I believe) when they were not endangered or is it still illegal to be in possesion of them?

I've been trying to google
I've been trying to google up some info on this, found this regarding South Australian law an am guessing our state law is probably the same.
According to South Australian fishing regulations stipulated in the Fisheries Management Act 2007, great white sharks are a protected species in South Australia and the act prohibits the taking, harming harassment, sale, purchase or possession of any part of a great white shark.
Anyone caught and prosecuted could face a penalty up to $100,000 or two years' imprisonment.

That's a question I would like answered
I would like to see that question answered by some one who is full bottle on the act, mind you I have seen in the past that something that was legal last year is now illegal to own.

Id be applauding their
Id be applauding their successes, except they count among those successes crushing Bret Carter.
Which to me always brings an element of doubt on how thorough or ethical their convictions are.
Looks too obvious to me that they are happy to cut corners and do anything not to lose cases.
Kind of like the Police were 30 years ago with all the cases we know were dodgy now, Mickelbergs, Button etc

Wow, I know of quite a few Great White teeth around the place, I would assume that they're illegal too according to this?

Fossilized Shark teeth?
I once met a bloke that has a cousin with a keen diving relative that finds fossolized shark teeth from GW's that were cruising around before Humans started walking upright, they are going to end up in jail.

The guy with the Whitey jaws
The guy with the Whitey jaws should be given a medal or at least employed by the fisheries as he obviously can catch the mongrel things. Good show re the crabs though.

Back story
Seems there might be a back story to guy with shark jaws. He didnt appear in court as he was already in custody......sounds like they are throwing the book at him for everything they can get on him.
I'd like to think fisheries have more important and beneficial things to do than worry about the decorations people have hanging on their walls; like continue catching and punishing bag limit offenders and the like.

I sort of thought there must be more to this than meet the eye, still I'd like to know how you stand if the jaws teeth etc came into you possession before the GWs became protected, way back when the whale station was processing whales just north of Albany many a GW was caught from the jetty and boats there and it was common as for the jaws to be taken cleaned and sold, all quite legally I believe, so just where do these people stand now so far as having then in their possession.

Well it must be illegal, I'm wondering if there was ever an amnesty to hand this kind of stuff in. I'm hearing what you say and it's a bit of a quandry for anyone who does have jaws from years ago.

Typical..
Cant see the any sense in this.
The jaws have attracted a bigger fine than all the undersize crabs.
Another rule/law that defies logic

CITES
OK, so heres what I have dug up during my sunday evening boredom.
GW sharks made it on to the CITES ( Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) list in 2005
https://cites.org/eng/prog/shark/other_sharks.php
It would seem, to me at least, that if you aquired any part of flora or fauna listed by CITES prior to the species becoming listed, you should have or apply for a permit that certifies the article is from pre CITES listing
www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/wildlife-trade/permits/pre-cites-certificates
Don't know how you would go now, 13 years after the GW listing, trying to prove you came into possesion of GW body parts prior to 2005....
Hope this info is of some help to those interested

Quokkas.
I see taking selfies with quokkas is now not allowed, does this mean if you have one from before this rule came in, then you could be in the shit. maybe the state government could hunt down & prosecute Roger Federer for some cash to put in the empty coffers. Haha.
Things are getting ridiculous....
Good job with the crabs...
Cheers & Stay safe
