hi Guys.
I will be heading to denham with a few mates mid march for a fishing trip.
towing up the boat, and was hoping if weatherpermits to go out west side of dirk hartog.
I have read a bit about swell etc aorund turtle bay can be pretty rough. just wondering what the best passage put would be?
best to head to tip of dirk hartog, then out to open ocean?
or can you get through the south?
not looking to camp on the boat overnight, just wantng to get out to the ocean side to target some reds, and have some respite form the sharks.
Just wondering what conditoons people would avoid. im assuming being offshore then ideal would be a weak e/se? avoid nw?
any advice or particulr things to watch out for would be greatly appreciated!
cheers
Goat.

Go out through the channel
Go out through the channel south end of DHI, a shorter trip from Denham than around the top. Channel is wide and plenty of navigation markers to guide you. But even out there no guarantee you'll get away from the sharks !

Fished West side of DHI
via Turtle Bay, tides, current and wind conspired to make it rough around the top of DHI, nothing you wouldnt see down south, the waves were standing up though in the shallower water, similiar to crossing a bar on an outgoing tide.
My only experience of south passage is looking down from Steep Point, looked pretty unforgiving on that particular day.

Turtle bay
Sharks are a problem in Perth !!
Having said that it's 72 ish k's to turtle bay then out from there to where your going to fish so it's a decent run fuel wise . Good grounds to the nw of turtle bay if you didn't want to head south down the island and get away from the populated areas .

The northern end of DH really worth a jig
The bottom and current is crazy ......but don't go under gunned, 30lb braid treated like cotton by the fish we hooked but hell it was fun until all the jigs were gone

Ballooning the block
I head up to the Block (West Point) on DHI each year, and do a lot of Ballooning and droning 400m+ from there... and sharks are a menace. I know its as far out as you would plan on going, but they are just as bad around that side as the other. Had a mate head up to Turtle Bay last year with his boat, said sharks were bad, lost more fish than he caught to sharks, had to stop fishing.
