West End Tuna

Went for an overnighter to Rotto with Tiiimbo on Wednesday, with conditions looking good for that day we headed towards West End with the plan of jigging and dropping sp's for demersals. Armed with some cray info off Bodie (cheers mate!) we dropped off the pots and got some lures out to troll towards the lumps after hearing reports of tuna and mackies, I put a skirt out and Tiiimbo chucked out an X-Rap (i think mate correct me if I am wrong) Tiiimbo struck well on the lure and landed a nice one and had me changing to an X-Rap as well. Only problem was our noisy 2 smoke kept sending the schools we spotted down even with a wide circle, so we changed tactics and got up wind and then drifted towards them.... time for light gear fun! Tim's got a yo zuri popper in on the action which got serious attention and I went with the trusty slice which also went well. We had a ball forgot about demersals and buggered off back to Thompsons when the onshore got too much and hit the quokka arms for some sneaky pints.

Pics to come later this arvo and if anyone that is keen to jump on board to jig or drop sp's for demersals send either of us a pm we are keen to learn the fine art.

Cheers,

Lamby

Gotta love chasing pelagics. Those SBTs are pretty tasty too.  How far were you running out the skirts? Was there much weed around west end?

I have a reasonably large assortment of demersal jigs and jigging gear and its pretty much all i've been doing for bottom fish last year if you're looking for a deckie some time ;)

There was some weed heading out Hlokk but none at the West End, water was just awesome out there and in regards to Deckie Tim and I would love to have you on board mate.

Got the pics resized Curt but having trouble loading them on bloody comp freezes up on me, will try again later. They were Southerns mate, built like bloody bullets fat little bastards too. Didn't get a weight on them unfortunately and have caught them bigger but awesome fun on the light stuff, give you a great fight catch a glimpse of the boat and go off on some screaming runs.

Yep love chasing Pelagics

Sorry forgot to add the skirts were out about 25-30m just on the back of the wake but got no interest unfortunately
