What’s your lotto boat?
Submitted by Dale on Sun, 2017-12-24 21:11
I know most people would think about it, but say you win lotto division one, what boat would you get? For me it would take a bit of time, but a Caribbean 27 Runabout would go close to being bought.

For me it'd be something
For me it'd be something about 40-45 foot, big enough to tow an 18fter behind.
And you wouldnt get me away from the islands...

48-50 foot
Something around 48-50 glass, excray or new doesn't matter as long as it can cruise at 22-25 knots , sleep 8 and have capacity to stay offshore for up to a month at a time.
Otherwise a 10 metre Naiad with twin 350s as long as they are not Yammies

Count me in on the converted or new cray boat. Dont need a fly bridge, just a good size double cab with a large deck area to drop a few bunks down & plenty of living / fishing room.
Cheers & Stay safe

You need a flybridge
So valuable for finding your way into those isolated anchorages, putting the boys up near the good lumps for Trout, eyeballing those billfish coming up into the pattern...

The one I have on order?
No, it would be West Australian- designed ali hull of the kind commonly seen on modern crayboats, 60 ft or thereabouts, lots of fuel capacity, able to get to Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef. We do the best ocean hulls in the world, for our conditions, those Hatteras, etc, just don't do it over here. Maxi Vision style, with saloon below, sleep 10 in a/c , half-covered rear deck , davits for big dinghy. And a winch and tipper.
Any takers for a shakedown cruise to the Monties?

I reckon I can drive it with my Master IV, but I'll need a good watchkeeper.

Boats not boat Dale.....
I'm also with the fellas on the ex cray/trawler style boat.....
I'd have something capable of sleeping about 8 comfortably, plenty of shade, plenty of fuel, ice maker etc....
It would spend its time between the Telos/Mentawi islands off Sumatra and the Pacific Islands - Fiji/Tahiti etc....
I'd join it for spells but would be happy for mates to keep it ticking and cruising chasing the dream....
Locally i'd have a 7 or 8mtr ali beast to fish hunt....

One boat wouldn’t cut it
Would have to be a big lotto win, but...
1). 45-50ft express sport fishing boat, maybe Viking or one of the custom Carolina builders. Keep it in Perth half the year and Exmouth the other half.
2). 55-60ft Grand Banks Aleutian for long distance cruising and extended Rotto stays. Used for trips to the Montes, Rowley Shoals and the Kimberley.
3). 23ft Contender or something similar for skiing/tubing on the river, towing to Shark Bay and tender duty for the Grand Banks.

I've never owned a boat, so
I've never owned a boat, so I'm not knowledgable about brands, whats good and whats not etc, but I'd be pretty damn happy with something around the 20ft mark that can bring me home some snapper or a few crays, is safe for myself and my kids but is also small enough to cruise up a river for bream or crabs. In general, a bit of an all rounder

And you won lotto to buy it? I’d say by your set up, you won a bit more than the worth of a dinghy

No, 4 different people and 4
No, 4 different people and 4 different tickets. We won enough to sustain our current lifestyle, aside from the initial set up costs, it’s quite a cheap way to live, and we set up my son and daughter. Was won on a slick pick, and I’ve been playing the same winning numbers ever since for a couple of div 3s and untold minors.

Lets be super greedy here , it’s a lotto boat after all ! . 59 feet of pure ocean going Greyhound and you use the wind for the bulk of the time . Aussie rules I’d say 20-25 crew .
