what is this

Gday all went out with a mate off Dampier the other day we fished in about 55m of water and caught this fish. I dont know what it is looks like some kind of wrass can anyone help?

Can't help with Id, but if ya don't know what it is why keep it?  Have ya eaten it? if ya did alright on the chew?

if you dont know what it is, dont take it... always great to get pinged for undersize fish at the ramp... :L

No worries.  We've got them around Coral Bay before.  I think I have tried them actually and from what I recall, while the flesh was nice and white and the flavour okay, I didn't find the texture particularly enjoyable.

i think it,s ok to  take fish you cannot identify......if it was a speicies with a size limit then i would know what fish it was. I recall once we were struggling to get a feed down on the Sth Coast and i got a dark nondecript fish cooked him up and he tasted just like delicious abolone.....would have killed for a few more of those
