Yep and yep. Nice fat strips off them. Fresher the better. Usually means you are on reasonable ground.

Yeah mate, we have noticed a lot of them around lately too.  And you're right about frothing on artificials.  On an average day out, i'd probably catch 10 on jigs compared to one for those using bait.

Dhuie bait

A dhuie hit the last (and only) fillet of SB I've used. I would use a fresh fillet again in a heartbeat...

Thanks, wish I had known that, it was a bit light on for decent fish!  That one was right next to a cray pot which is now a mark in the gps.  Looked pretty hard ground.

Hard ground is good Randall, it's the cracks in the limestone you can't see on the sounder where the dhuies live. I've picked up more Dhuies from this type of ground than with structure. I have one spot where it's marked with a contour probably 30m in dia 20m deep ever so slight decrease in depth and that has produced well for me. Will only fish it once or twice a season so as not to hammer it.

Have heard it said..

I have had it said that Srg Baker baits catch Dhuies because notin else will eat them. :) .  I have had baits untouched as well while drifting over patches were other baits were being nibbled by pickers...

Tried SB and not a touch

On several occasions - much prefer western king wrasse, filleted and then cut fillets down the centre line so four fillet baits, the red ones produce far better than the belly ones. Used whole if the wrasse is small enough .  Best dhuie recently caught on the remaining frame and head and dropped a really good one last week on the same but what is with all the hammerheads around snaffling bait meant for dhuies???????
