What did you catch this weekend??
Submitted by wadetolley on Sun, 2013-03-24 19:10
So I headed offshore in the new tub, out to the 38m mark off Hillarys today. Ocean was sloppy, and the drift was very quick. The wife managed to pull up a nice black arse, it was very quiet other than that. Intrested to find out how everyone else went?

effect of moon on crayfish catch
I would appreciate FW members comments on what effect the moon has on crays going in pots. It's an old argument that goes around and around in the group of people potting crays down this way. most people are saying forget about potting crays in the week leading up to the full moon , over the full moon period and 1 or 2 days after the full moon. FW members oppinions sought.
Thanks

Fullmoon
During the full moon drop your pots on to the heaviest / hardest bottom or as close to a big edge as you can set them.
The crays won't travel too far from shelter while the nights are brighter than normal.

Weekend - Yellow Fin Whiitng!!
Blake (my shop manager) and myself went to one of my landbase yellowfin whiting spots in the Mandurah Estuary and did well!
I got 14 plump YFW (plus heaps of big herring etc) and he got about 12 plus YFW also, all on Berkley Sub Dogs, Berkley Scum dogs, Deka screws and Smiths Towadi's stickbaits!
We had a blast for 3 hours =)

Megladon- The night of the
Megladon- The night of the full and 2/3 days after the full moon are the worst, (not an arguement it is fact)
thats when we all have days off, the crays are subject to more predetation during this period so they don`t move around as much.
You can still get a feed but if you have an option fish the dark side of the moon as it is best.

Got a spotted mackeral trolling out of mindarie on saturday. Hooked up after trolling for 5 minutes, kept on trolling for another 4 hours and got nothing else. It was a very wet and bumpy ride back in.

Cut off
Trolled out of Hillaries and lost a teaser and a rapala's to a clown in a RIB that swung around behind me and cut two of the three off.
End up hitting the bottom at Hale and only saw a Blackarse.
