My tip for bread and butter
My tip for bread and butter species would be to consider using berkly gulp blood worm. Herring and whiting seem to love it and you can.leave it in your tackle box (close it carefully) and you've always got bait.

Yup, thats all I use now for
Yup, thats all I use now for whiting, 1/0 kl circle hooks, cut em up about 1 inch long and pin it twice on the hook, just as good as fresh squid tentacles, well nearly :)

Pretty much any beach will
Pretty much any beach will hold whiting. Try just behind the breaking waves, no need for long casts when whiting fishing.
Just because I smile & nod does not mean I believe the crap coming out of your mouth.

I know you said as far south
I know you said as far south as woodies but I was at a kwinana beach and had a flick for half an hour catchin and releasing 5 blue spot and one bartail flatties on a 1/4 oz tt vibe, good fun, all hook ups about 5m out, just cover new ground every cast, prob got a fish every 10 casts. I had the mask on a few weeks ago at the grain terminal and seen plenty of flatties, a flounder and a few fat whiting, all within casting distance. Calm, relaxin beaches with no snags and no weed
