What rod for TD SOL 2500???
Submitted by mosley2008 on Sun, 2011-05-01 09:24
Hi guys, just wanted to get some suggestions for a rod to match with my new TD sol 2500?
Just want to be able to flick light plastics and hard body lures for mainly river fishing, some action off the moles occasionally.
Got 6lb fireline loaded up and ready to get tested out but cant think of a new rod to match it with.
I should know this as I used to work at Bluewater Myaree but that was a few years ago and I have dropped out of the loop since then.
Could someone update me on what rod would be best suited please??
Cheers !!!!!!

Budget?
Budget will be a factor...how much do you want to spend? At the lower end I was using a two piece 2-4kg Berkley Dropshot matched with a TD Advantage 2500....well balanced and was really happy with the combo until i got a bit of line wrap when rigging up and snapped the tip off the road :(
Rod was responsive and I used it for everything from chasing bream, squidding, catching tailor, etc.
This time round I am keen to have a close look at something better...possibly a Daiwa Interline but I also wouldn't hesitate to match up with the Shimano gear around the same price.
Cheers,

I can spend up to $300, $100
I can spend up to $300, $100 more if i find something particularly good.
I was thinking of a drop shot just for the price, has anyone used the SOL rod?? I dont think it will be worth the match up honestly but would like to get some opinions.
Looked through the forums for a bit of research, it sounds like most people really like the dropshot and its not overly priced for when i snap the tip (it WILL happen).
I would still love to hear from a few more people before i go out and get a rod.
Im currently using a Penn Ultimate 6" 2-4kg matched with an Okuma Hardstone that is ok but cant cast those little hard bodies lures far enough!!! It has no chance when using light plastics its just too heavy.

just putting it out there,
just putting it out there, but why not get a daiwa sol rod, to match the daiwa sol reel?
they come in some light variants and i think it would probably be the best for the reel.
your 'old workplace' has some in that i saw yesterday, so i know they are in stock. compleat angler in nedands has some too.
edit: and also check out the lox rods. reallllly nice carbon fibre rods.

I've got a couple of Dropshots and there awsome rods for the price, and they are very tough. Take the reel in and try it on many rods and see what feels right/has a good action.

Geez im impatient. Went to the store and checked out all the rods in my price range, they were either too flimsy or too heavy, then I picked up the SOL rod.
Guess what happened next??
I burnt a hole in my pocket. The reel felt like it was home as soon as i put it on the rod. 1 pce 7" 1-3kg, perfect.
Im silly to have even started this thread, the choice was obvious as soon as the reel was on.
Im stoked, gonna flick a few whitebait around in freo this arvo, see if i can hook a nice sized tailor to test the combo out.
Thanks for the opinions guys !!!!
Total cost for this exercise, $657 including 6lb crystal fireline.
End result, one happy fisho for many moons to come !!!

Idk about the dropshots
Im not confident with the drop-shots i know they had trouble with series two and so they cleared them all out ridiculously cheap at BCF when i worked there. I have a Daiwa Teirra rod that has been exceptionally great and they are only about $179 the sol rod is simply an improved version with sic fuji guides. The new sol type 2 however is a completely different blank and a brilliant rod for placcys etc. The interline rods alos look great the budget version coming in about the $350 mark, and i hear once you buy one you will never go back as the casting is signaifcantly better. :) Hope that helps mate.

Hence they specialed them for $50 each. But i have a mate who has caught a stringray on his and had no problem, so i dont know what the go is there...

Daiwa Tierra 4lb -12lb
Hey mate, I matched my SOL 2500 with a light Daiwa Tierra (4lb - 12lb class) spin stick. Suits it pretty well, caught some good fish on it. You can get them for around $150 in store and maybe a little cheaper if you find them on ebay. The sol is a top little reel, love mine!!
Hope that helps.

Tried out the new combo at
Tried out the new combo at the north mole this arvo with my son, caught about 6 scaly mackerel on it, it performed great, the casting is something else.
The reel is great, even on a light setting it was still extremely smooth, enough for me to feel each flick of the mackies tail through the rod and then pulling line off the reel.
Great Fun !!!
Im really happy with it, stoked I got the SOL rod this afternoon and got out for a flick with it.
Now to nail those bream with it and give it a real tryout.
Thanks for all the comments
