Whats a warranty worth?

I purchased a Pfluegar Contender from a Fishing tackle store in Joondalup, the reel is 4 and a bit months old and they are supposed to be warrantied for 5 years.
Went out on Nebraska 22nd of April, and the neck of the reel (part attaching to the rod) Cracked luckly there was a screw holding it in place so it didn't break all the way through, and this was caused by catching a snapper.
Apparently The fishing store have never seen or heard of such damage to these reels, and are refusing to fix the part, because they are adament that it was missused and probably dropped or stepped on to cause that damage.
What great customer service... I am not one to bag a tackle store, but this isn't right.

Dean i think you will find

i think you will find that the warranty is from the manuracturer and not the store ... in saying that the store should send it off to be looked at by Pfluegar before saying anything. but the store has no obligation to replace/fix the item at their expense. only problem with most warranty work is that it can take a while to get sorted ... it might not be so bad in perth with the reps living there but i know its a hastle down south here.

The process!
The warranty process;
Acertain what the fault is, deny if we think it's not warranty but at no stage does the warranty stop with us as if the client isn't happy with the product or our decission we'll take it up with the rep/manufacturer who has the last/final say!
At no stage will I deny a client to have him walk out p!ssed off at my/our say.....we're there to help the customer.......well that's what we @ Oceanside do :)

customer service
customer service is a thing of the past these days....a lot of shop owners dont want to know about it (warranty)they just say no thinking you will buy another but in most cases you leave the store in an unhappy mood and they lose a customer...if they took the time to sort it out they would see that it doesnt cost them any thing (only time) and they still have a happy customer...i work in customer service and ill let the customer walk out happy with a new product(so i see them again) and then sort out watever the issue is with the supplier.......a happy customer means a repeat customer means a happy shop owner.....

cant agree more with you
cant agree more with you there Vander re. customer service. but im not sure i would like to be a tackle store owner and hand over a new reel worth a few hundred dollars when the chances of it being refunded by the manufacturer was very slim. just one more reason why i dont own a tackle store :). if it looks like a legitimate fault then fair enough.and if you where talking about a $15 lure then who cares but i wouldnt give them $200 out of my back pocket.
i could go into this more (and did, but deleted it) about people that try to rip the system by claiming warranty on fualts that they caused.

I understand that some people may lie about how they broke something, but this has cost them a lot more for not replacing a $20 part, as I will never shop there again.

AND FOR THE SAKE
of $20 the shop could have made hundreds if not thousands but because they didnt want to help they suffer...customer service never hurt anyone only the lack of it did!!!!
