Where and how to go abalone fishing in Augusta, WA

Hi guys (and potentially girls :P),

I'm going to Augusta on wednesday for the first time with my dad. He told me that he went abalone fishing "back in the old days" for greenlip near augusta, but he can't remember where. Can anyone give me some directions to some good abalone fishing spots, and how to get there. Also, about how far out do i have to swim, and about how far down can i find them? I don't know if i can dive more then 5-6 m without weights.

Thanks,

Jason

AUGUSTA ABALONE

Augusta is  out of the resricted zone but  size and bag limits still apply. There is a lot of reefs and rocky  areas to find them . but they are the smaller roes abalone. Its the boaties that go out to the islands that bring the big suckers in  .You still need a rec fishing lisence  to take them.

There is nice shallow (under 5m) granite reef out from flinders boat ramp which contain good size roes.  I have also found the odd brownlip there too.

Best chance of greens (my knowledge) is on the western side toward hamo Bay.  Lots of small granite outcrops and swell to match.   Best spots are 500m+ swim though.

IMO, roes are better eating anyway.
