Surviving Kalbarri

G'day

I'm heading up to Kalbarri between the 27th of Dec and 3rd of Jan for a spot of fishing/diving. The only thing newer than the boat is the owners skippers ticket. Any advice on navigating the mouth and if my type of boat should do any type of offshore up that way at all? What type of wind and swell max should I be looking for?

Could be pushing it here but I would really appreciate any suggestions on where to go for a decent fish.

Thanks if you can help!!

Mate if your a new chum to the boating ,i would be very carefull running the mouth ,it can be quite dangerous ,if the swell is running. you do have a bit of speed up your sleeve with th 60hp . as for the fishing we had more luck north of town up near the sand patches about 3mile out ,snapper dhuies, sambos good luck be carefull.

agree with paul , best thing to do is sit back for a few times and watch the other boats go through even before thinking about doing it . Nice rig , always dubious about rubbers for fishing boats , be a great dive boat

Cheers all, can you simply launch off the beach somewhere to avoid the mouth all together?

Have fished there a few times with a boat..and found that talking to the locals at the pub the go. They told me were most people go wrong is they turn right and time there run well between waves, but come unstuck when they get over the waves and start straight away heading offshore, as there is submerged reef along there. We used to keep heading north once we got past the breakers abot 400m before we turned and headed off shore.  Also watch fishing close inshore, they get some ripper swell there!

The first time we went out gave us a buzz, and we cheered as we went out...and then when we come back in...we shit our undies as it was all different again!
