Where to buy a milk crate?
Submitted by new age on Tue, 2014-05-27 07:45
I need a milk crate for the back of my bike and I was wondering where I should consider asking around for one?
I live around the Bunbury area but if it comes to it I will look into options in Perth when I make a trip up there.
cheers and thanks for your suggestions

I don't think you can buy
I don't think you can buy one, They are probably like Chep pallets, they belong to companies. Im sure someone will have one in a shed somewhere though

One of the handiest inventions
But Im with trymyluck - belongs to companies, and I was told once it is possibly illegal to have one in your possesion. I dont think so!

Yup - illegal to have them
As several tradies have found out when prosecuted for possession - easy pickings when they are on show on the back of utes

The ones at bunnings aren't
The ones at bunnings aren't as good as the milk crates so I'd probably just use an esky or make one with marine ply. Probably illegal hey

Milk crates
Go to balcatte tip recycling section there are heaps there full of old beer bottles, cost you $5 and you get a crate with a dozen empty king browns in it.

If you were to look behind
If you were to look behind any deli or servo i'm sure you would see one however i would never recommend or suggest actually taking one for that would be illegal and could lead to possible prosecution from the relevant companies, nudge nudge

Think about it...
Taking/illegal use of milk crates is theft and costs the local dairy industry heavily at a time when sustainability is at risk.

Milk Depot
If you know someone at your local milk depot you could ask nicely if you could have one. Even if you don't know someone you could just ask.
Could save some embarrassing questions later.
I am sure they would give you one . They lose lots every year.

You can wall around any city
You can walk around any city block and find them abandoned out the back of many a building. But I would suggest that asking a local deli or lunch bar or restaurant should get you a kind donation. A young polite enterprising kid wanting to recycle one to a worthwhile use shouldn't be discouraged.

watch out if they are left
watch out if they are left out in the sun, their UV protection isnt that great.
I picked one up abandoned, looked a bit faded. Stood on it to clean my windscreen and straight through like a rat trap.
Couldnt pull my leg out as it grabbed my leg and had to walk to the shed with it stuck there to get a saw and cut the fker off

why not as mentioned go to a depot and ask for one. there are heaps of damaged ones around that are quite suitable for what you need. had one on my pushy in my younger days , 20 ltr bucket fits nicely with a section of pvc pipe bolted either side to hold the rods
