Where can you find clean mussels?

This is my first post, pleased to be part of the team.

Am I dreaming or is there a place in the metro area where you can get a bucket of mussels, for being doused a serve of tomato and chilli ofcourse!

Also I'm chasing a spot to take the young bloke for a sure fire hit of herring.

I can feel the love, any help would be mucho appreciato.

Dunc.

welcome, have friends that go to the channel markers and get mussels off of them, haven't killed them yet, as a lot are on iron or concrete.

Think the most healthiest would be to buy them, last I saw at IGA progressive stores was $6.99 a kg, and do your nice chilli mussels

For sure,  got some from the river and spent an hour cleaning off all the barnacles etc and they still dont smell 100% after cooking. Ended up using em for bait.

I always get mine from

I always get mine from Seafresh at Innaloo.  They are normally pretty clean and fresh.  Like Joe and Roberta said, they are a relatively cheap seafood to buy and a whole lot quicker.

That said though - if you were keen to give it a crack, years ago, me and a mate used to get them under the Queen Victoria Bridge in Freo.  You can park pretty close to the bridge.  Just tie a rope to yourself so the currents don't drag you off.

Top advice, Kailis it is.  That said, with $20 of mulies and whitebait, $50 of a variety of soft plastics, last Saturday arvo/ evening I went from the groin at South Beach to the Freo Bridge, up near The Red Herring to Point Walter and under the Narrows and didn't get a tap.  Not a blowie, couldn't even get snagged.  Plus $20 in petrol and $10 of Hungry Jacks.  The only thing I caught was a young couple "cuddling" in the bush at Point Walter, still, a nice night to watch the waves and forget about my looming tax bill.  Your feedback is really appreciated, thanks, Dunc.

Certain plastic moorings in

Sun, 2011-12-04 19:29

Certain plastic moorings in the southern metro area have tons of big ones.

Just need to keep you eyes peeled.

Also when you do find them never take more than 30% from one mooring. This enables them to replenish quickly meaning they will be there for years to come.

I have 3 moorings that have produced a feed whenever i feel like one for the last 5 years. Just dont be greddy.

They like calmer water

Cleaning them is easy. Chuck them in a CLEAN cement mixer on low speed and leave for 20min. They ened up cleaner tha  any i have bought from the stores

My last haul
