?? which 2 stroke oil ??

I need to buy another 4 litres this week.

usually pay around $40 at a balcatta marine store

i have a mariner engine and have been using the quicksilver brand.

after seeing 4l of another brand for $22 at wittworths  i am now considering changing. its also tcw3 rated like the quicksilver brand.

is anyone else with a murcery / mariner engine using an alternate oil to the quicksilver brand and would recommend this?

thanks

Yeah mate I have a 75hp mariner and changed to valvoline TC-W3 instead of using quicksilver oils. I asked an outboard mechanic and he said it was ok for me to do it. But dont keep changing brands of oil all the time. he said if you change brand don't change again. But i'm not saying its fine to do so.

i only use quicksiver (9.5 litres for $98 at hayway marine) as you keep the warrenty with it. definately dont change oil brands everytime you buy new oil as they have there own different additives in them and too much of different additives can start hurting engine which could be costly

cost you more than you save if you use a dodgy cheap oil and your engine packs up

To be honest they can't

To be honest they can't insist you use there oil to get warrenty. What they can say is if the failure is due to oil/lubrication then they can vodi the warrenty claim. That is only fair.

I like to use the oil specified for the product. In my Yamaha i run Yamilub, in my Mercury i run Quicksilver..

Often you will find the motor will run fine but you may have other issues, like oil bottle alarms being set of incorrectly..

its as much about convenience as price.

looks like i will just have to make the long drive up to balcatta for a bottle of Channel No 2.
