Whiting Week!!

With some not too bad weather last Monday I decided to get into some solid KG whiting. Took good mate Craig out and after a very late gentlemens hour launch and cray pots all sorted we had a KG bash!

For several hours we got into quality plump KG's between 47cm to 53cm & bait of choice was local freo pot ocky. We landed a dozen and lost 4 at the boat and thinking that was more than enought we pulled the pin!

Content with the boat whiting I was keen to get back into YFW landbase. Good mate Kurt Blanksby and myself headed down to the Mandurah Estuary yesterday and made the best of the weather!

We fished surface stickbaits like Berkley Scum Dog etc and landed 17 descent yellowfin whiting in about 2 hours ....... lost a few also!!

Plenty to do & catch whilst the demersal ban is on .... happy days =)

Killing it

Ryan not trying to pinch spot, but broadly where were you with the YFW. We tried between crab strings on the flats on the eastern side of the estuary in about 500mm water (cant go much lower with the boat).

I do realise it might have been to deep and we were time wasting and hoping but ended up pulling some hezza's on the poppers instead. See seperate post. Just trying to get a better idea on the whiting popping as it is new to me (and others) but as the eastuary is only 50m from the front fence got to give it a bash.

Might be time to hit the beaches around GI, land based of course. Little to zero pressure ;)

Yes have made the move back down from Kcity, so have to change from Coral trout to YFW!!! Size wise not a great swap, taste wise I recon whiting beats the rest.

 just for those that dont

Tue, 2013-11-19 14:22

just for those that dont know, a majority of the yfw down mandurah way are spawning and full of roe!, we caught a heap on surface lures, released all the fat ones and kept a few smaller ones for a feed, the more people find out about these places the less fish there will be for evryone to enjoy down the track. my advice, keep a few smaller ones for a feed and release the big mummas
