No Luck here...

Sun, 2009-03-15 18:16

Weather looks great for tomorrow Paul. Good luck.

I headed out for a few hours north of 2 Rocks yesterday arvo and didn't have any luck at all. Normally I hit up on the Herring at that time of the arvo and I was really quite suprised it was so quiet. A few Porpuses were having a good time a little way out of casting distance. I didn't hang around for the evening run so it would be interesting to hear from anyone else who did see the sun go down.

Cheers, Vince

At Flat Rock the pots are still there. Not as many as there have been tough. Why? You planning on raiding a few?? LOL

Clip

Sun, 2009-03-15 19:06

Well done Kavman, just a little tip for next time. Tie your leader directly to the hook and get rid of the brass clip and swivel.

Will hopefully help you nail those larger wily bream.

John

na na definitely been bitten by something but no idea what it'd be? does anybody here know?

yeah thanks for the tip big john. I actually did realise i didn't need to do that a little later I was using it at the time when changing hooks trying different baits (prawns vs. mussels and stuff).

we did wel. Plan was to end

Sun, 2009-03-15 19:54

we did wel.

Plan was to end out @ midday, got half around the block and I heard that noise coming from the wheel's, O NO it's the bearing's, about face again and straight back home, the look on my daughters face could of killed me, off to the auto shop got some new bearings, took me two hours to replace, then we headed off around 2pm.

Launch the boat ok, we were on our way, @ one stage we had a visit from a local dolphin and just as I pointed at it and told to POQ Jasmine hooks into a Squid then all of a sudden that dolphin is back it launched it self straight onto the squid and it was off, the look on my daughter was priceless , Look Dad I've hooked a dolphin with a live Squid, I started to crack up big time, I got the rod off her and gave it a good tug, to my surprise we got the Squid back whole, after that jasmine caught 6 Squid and I caught one.

Not a bad day I reckon as less we got a feed of squid for our troubles.

Hell yer, she's good luck

Mon, 2009-03-16 16:40

Hell yer, she's good luck when it come's to fishing, she loves it with a passion, always asking me questions or listening to others when chatting about fishing.

Mrs love's to go as well but lately she's battling carpal tunnel syndrome so that stops her going, and she's pi$$ off about it.

both are very keen on fishing, and most times they out do me Wink

tough day at the office for us

Mon, 2009-03-16 09:12

Headed out of Mindarie at about 6-30am, trolled the back of staggies for an hour but it was pretty rough and weedy. No signs of Bonito or Mackies.
Headed out and tried a couple of spots first up with no luck.
The "dropzone" was the "deadzone" yet again, with fish on the sounder but no interest whatsoever. time to move on.
Lockie picked up a small pinkie, then his huge BB. Whilst Darryn and myself couldn't raise a scale.
We tried a number of spots and Lockie claimed another BB for the esky. They were looking pretty lonely in there.
Next drift I got nailed and the fight had me thinking it was a dhuie as it lunged a bit then gave up, and the strength of th efight would have pegged it for a teenage Dhuie, unfortunately a rat sambo of around 9kg surfaced. Doh!
The release weight then started getting a work out from me, with undersize BB's and Darryn catching a couple of undersize dhuies.
We headed wider and had better success on spots that had pots on them. unfortunately with a bit of current running the ropes were running at 90 degrees to the drift line and we had a few near misses with the ropes.
Eventually I hit paydirt and a team effort resulted in landing a nice Dhuie. I was on the rod, Darryn was clearing the cray rope and Lockie was backing the boat back so we could keep the fish off the rope.
Tally for the day was something like this:
Darryn: 2 dhuies (released) One major bust off (possible shark)
Lockie: 1 SB (released to placate the first fish rule) Pinky (released), 3  BB (1 released) A couple of big fish dropped
Me: 1 Dhuie, a couple of big bust off,s 2 BB (released), Swallowtail (released), 2 Sambo's (released), western blue devil (released), 2 sweep (released), 3 scorpion cod (released), 2 skippy sashimied in ginger and soy with a cold beer (yum).
Great day on the water but very few fish. Ah well thats fishing for you.
PS: I hate thise squid in the yellow boxes. Give me the blue boxed ones any day.

Cheers

Andy Mac
