Winter project time!
Well it was time to upgrade, and I jumped on the deal of the year, landing a Barrington 5.4 targa sports late 90's plate boat for an absolute steal.
The pipeline holds putting a 4 Stroke on, hard top conversion, re wire with some newer electronics and doing something with the cosmetic stuff; paint and flooring.
In terms of the engine upgrade it has a 90hp 2 stroke jono with about 500 hours, pushing it along to 38 knots trimmed out. I have spotted a 90hp Honda at muhling Marine with hardly any hours, what kind of difference would I expect in changing it to a 4stroke?
In terms of the hard top I was thinking of it having a couple of purposes, storage of swags/surfboards/gear for long trips, but also the boat is going to get used a fair bit for wake boarding, so was thinking of integrating a tow point up the top, anybody have any experience/advice on hard top conversion?
The re wire is all under control,
The paint is pretty rough after a few seasons in the Karratha sun, I can borrow a big petrol water blaster from work, so was thinking of using that to get most of the paint off, then deciding on a backyard paint job vs. A pro job, and the price difference vs. the quality difference.
Then new carpets for the flooring.
Also thinking about making a bigger fuel tank and putting a gauge on it, as it's only 60l. So I'll keep the post updated whenever progress occurs according to finance and time.
Also need to sell the tinny to finance the resto

4 strokes are generally
4 strokes are generally heavier motors. check the weight difference and consider what the effect on your trim will be. (considering you want a bigger fuel tank as well...)

Go bigger
Mate if your thinking of going 4 stroke you need to go bigger if you went a 90hp Honda you would prob get about 30 knots tops and if you put a hard top on it you could expect even less so me personally I would go for more hp
mind you if a dealer has offered you $3000-3500 he must be blind or really wants to offload his stock motor because that's well above what the motors worth

yeah, I was thinking similar
yeah, I was thinking similar thoughts, but the previous owner did spend 2500 on it at his shop just before Christmas, so that could be part of the reason. MMight just have to keep an eye out for a 115, or a 140 zuke.
