Interesting trip south

Had to tow a trailer down south to Perth so left Carnarvon around 0200. O5OO and had the need to visit Jenny Craig's weight loss centre in a truck bay about 80km south of Billabong roadhouse. Pulled in and dropped a few kg and just signing the paperwork when bugger me dead, haven't seen a car in ages when one has to pull up and catch sight of one finishing his job.
4 blokes in a Patrol, loaded up with rods and gear on top, had stopped to pump their bilges out and dump some empties.
Off I go and sure enough they catch up and pass only for me to see them again 20 minutes later with them having yet another leak.
This went on right down with them stopping about 6-7 times till just north of Gingers roadhouse with them about 10 cars back while the coppers were collecting data from a prang earlier.

Dropped trailer off and left early Wednesday morning, stopped in to inspect Leeman sea rescue set up then off to Gero.

Left there Friday morning and just south of Billabong spot a boat trailer in trouble, lost left wheel and as it dragged on the bitumen had snapped the u bolts securing the axle to the spring. Asked if they were ok, "do you have any bolts"? not u bolts that's for sure but other than that it looked like they were ok so finished to drive without incident.

Should just about come up to Pete's adventures at his local boat ramp.

john still amazes me how many people tow on long distance runs that put them miles from parts shops and they dont carry what to me are basic spares in their tool kits

, spare hub, spring , u bolts and bearings , grease etc come in handy , no matter how well you have prepared your trailer ,

parts can give out anywhere in your travels ime

Repairs

When I got back I went down to the wreckers to see my mate, there was a trailer in there that just had a new axle fitted. Going by the boat id plate it was about 4 years old, they towed it down from Ktown and did a bearing as they came in to town, parked up in a caravan park overnight then brought it in with the wheel flopping about. The axle was stuffed, as mate took the remaining bearing off the other side he had water running out, not one skerrick of grease and they wonder why these things happen.
