Wire do tuna like it??

Hey was just wondering wat peoples oppinions on using wire for tuna is. Never fished for them but am doing it this year plus fishing for mackies. Iv done abit of research that says they dont like it but was wondering if anyone on here has spun/live baited on wire and picked up tuna before?

I would have two setups, one

I would have two setups, one for tuna and one for mackies. Troll your mackie setups and if you see schools of tuna cast at them with your tuna setup.

I only use a 2500 reel with a 2-5kg rod for tuna and still land them around that 7-8kg range. I use 10lb braid with a 20lb leader and 20g halco twisty.

I know this doesn't help with your question though.

To answer the question - simply - No. I have found that even if you troll one lure for mackies and another for tuna without wire the tuna catch rate drops. Im with choc. Troll for mackies and other razor gang members with a short ( that's what I do) length of wire joined directly (without swivel) to a wind on leader. I use a long wind one to braid (Yes I know most use mono for trolling) so mostly line twist isn't an issue. If I was going to use a swivel its just at the lure. Mackies when on bite any bubble trail, including that caused by swivels.
Then have casting setups ready to go to launch at tuna bust-ups.

I have never used wire when trolling for metro mackies in Perth and haven't had one bite me off yet.

Not a huge sample size, but my crewies and I have hooked half a dozen or so Spaniards, metro and Jurien, all on mono leaders, and never got bitten off. Certainly no guarantees, but I will happily continue to stick with mono, purely for the chance of a tuna. This is trolling...live or dead bait fishing probably a different matter.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Alot

Correct me if I'm wrong. Alot of mackeral are lost due to other mackeral attacking the air bubbles on the leader once a fish is hooked, just what I have heard not experienced.

I always use wire for mackies and have never really trolled for tuna.

I never run wire on trolling lures. Can't ever remember a bite off because of it.
