Wobbegong shark

Hey Everyone,

Quick question on Saturday night my mate and I went out for a fish on 5 Fathom and my mate kept catching wobbegong sharks.  He must have caught at least 5 of them and a couple were pretty big one of them went at least 4 1/2 - 5 foot.  We got some cool photos and then relesed them all but my question is can you keep them and if so are they worth keeping ?  To be honest i don't think i ever would cause they are just so docile !!!

On another note had a awesome night fishing caught my PB Dhui going to 60cm ( I'm only a beginer ) and a couple of snapper the sharks some western Whirrah stingrays and some KG's.  All were released btw we figured we got the Dhui so early in the night we would get another one but lesson learned cause we didnt get another one lol.  Im gonna try and upload some photos so everyone can have a look at my Dhui.

Hi Rooboy, they look like Port Jackson sharks, not Wobbegongs, catch shed loads of small ones of the rocks. Not good to eat as far as I know!

Yeah they are definitley port jackson sharks, not wobbegongs mate. As mentioned above, crap eating, and crap fighting too.

Wobbegongs look a bit more like this:

If you do catch wobbegong, they are pretty good eating from what i've heard. Personally i just let them go though.

 I think 5.5 - 6ft is as big

I think 5.5 - 6ft is as big as they get, most of the ones I catch from shore are only babies 12-18inches long, they must head deeper the bigger they get. Sounds like you had a good night though.

Ye I thought 5 foot was

Ye I thought 5 foot was pretty big !!! Definitley one of our better trips so far thats for sure !!!

One thing i was really curious about was when we went out we went past 20+ boats on the North end of Garden Island and I have no Idea what they were fishing for because it looked like they were only fishing the shallows ?  We decided to stick to our original plan and head out to our spots but i wish i knew what they were catching ?

Wobbies are pretty good

Wobbies are pretty good fresh, cut up a smallish one once, but yeh they will bite you if you give them a chance! Theyre skin is extra tough, more-so than normal sharks i reckon, they'll make ur knife blunt in 2 slices, and they are mostly a big boof head and guts. Put it this way i've done it once and never again haha
