I can't understand the statement
I can't understand the statement "they don't know who owns them" the number plates are there for all to see. A phone call from the guys that recovered them to the cops would soon solve who owns what.

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

A few
different stories going around town, bit hard to work out which is the real version of events.
Sounds like a woman was (for some reason only known to her) driving around on wonnerup beach on Sunday night and had the rediculous idea of crossing the rivermouth.
Nek minnit, husband/partner (whatever relation) attempted to pull her out and, well, it just got worse from there.
I bet the boys from Geo Marine Engineering had a fun monday

Clowns
I have it on very good authority that the local rangers didn't have the heart to fine them either (could have apparently). The rangers thought they would have to find a fair bit of cash to fix both of the fark ups anyway!

is a legal 4WD beach South of the river
I've driven over it on various occasions when DRY
would not even consider it when water in it
The beach on the Southern side of the river mouth is a legal 4WD beach, many guys go down there and park beside the water when fishing of a night, but I'm not too shore about North of the river mouth
What I can't understand why would a second vehicle go into the water when the first is already in 'trouble'

just a one word reply
. . . . NO
most, if not all policies state you have to be on a genuine road built for the purpose
Your definately NOT permitted to be driving in a river bed

Yelp there is part of the beach that cars have access to
Straight from the shire's/city website;
'4 wheel drive vehicles are permitted access from the Wonneup Boat ramp east to the mouth of the estuary ONLY'
Poor buggers, bloody silly though.

Wrong - Insurance WOULD cover the event
There is no "Idiot clause" exclusion - and you wonder why insurance premiums are so high
Have seen and paid plenty (read too damned many to count) 4WD losses for river crossings, parked below tide lines, bogged on beaches and the tide came in, rolled over on dunes, beaches etc - the only requirement is that it has to be sudden, unforeseen and unexpected from the standpoint of the insured
Unless an insurer can prove they intended to inundate the vehicle they have to pay
