A big bait sitting on the bottom. They'll virtually take anything. maybe an oil bomb on the bottom as well.

Hey mate, people pay out on

Hey mate, people pay out on rays some times but you dont see many pics of big ones landed. Try the search function at the top, there has been a few good posts on fishing for rays. Sea-kem is right though, reasonable size bait on the bottom, get some blood on it. A mulie bomb can be good, couple of mulies cut down the middle, turned inside out, onto an 8/0 and a bit of bait string around it does the trick. Herring also go well, take off the gill plates for a bit of smell. Same baits go for gummies. Can try squid as well.

Also, probably goes without saying but if your not gonna eat em, take care of em and release well. Walk down to the end of the jetty to land them on the beach, please dont gaff them just for the sake of it. Youll get a better pic anyway next to it on the beach. No need to take off the barb man, just enjoy the fight and put it back to catch again when it gains another 50kg :-)

Welcome to the site and good luck mate!!

I unwillingly found out that rays are absoluted mad about whale oil. yep. A client has a big drum of the stuff from the 70s and after putting a teaspoon of the stuff into some premix i had rays around the yak for hours!
