Woodies report

Went to ammo jetty straight after work stocking up some scalies.. scalies weres shy.. had a baloon out no touches.. got back to my car..few people were there standing around I wonder why.  Then when saw my window was smashed.  4 cars' left window were broken.  Is there something that we can do about it as in report to someone?  Spwein no fish and window was broken.

Thu, 2010-12-16 05:18

yeh don't leave your car there at night, otherwise the junkies will get to it, as you have now witnessed. Maybe put forth an appeal to cockburn council for security or cameras to be put in place. Im heading to woodies right now, so hopefully there are a few fish...

always been a bad area

The fishing is good at the jetty because no one is game enought to park there for any great length of time.

I have been confronted by packs of youths with knives and bats whilst having a quite night fishing with a mate from work who doesn't get out fishing much.

We rang the cops and explained the urgency as we could not get off the jetty due to the youths hanging around in large numbers at the end of the jetty.

Cops took 45 mins to arrive, put the lights on, they all scattered and no one got charged. Not surprised considering the lack of police human resources.

Made a rule now that I will never fish there again as a result. Bit of a shame because there are good numebrs of squid and scalies there most of the time.

And no good putting camera's in the carpark. The will either get smashed or spraypainted lenzes.

I caught a monster last year when i was fishing for snapper.

I didn't weigh it but i recon it would be around 60ish kilo.

it was almost a meter in diameter.

Took an hour to land that big bas...

that was actually a pretty good effort i must say. my mates and i got a 20kg last year at eshed and it took us 45 min to drag it in and another 10 minutes to haul it up. bent our gaff and we ended up having to use a cliff gaff and the normal gaff together to bring it up.gave 20 people a good feed though.

Yeh it is a good effort. I've got a few around the 120-140kg mark and even with heavy gear, they take a good 3 hours. Although there not a prized fish around here, you have to give it to them, they pull bloody hard and it takes some practice landing them.

i much prefer to have a clean fight with a fish. thats the thing, backbreaking work. id like it if my back kept healthy  for the rest of my life :)used to target them, dont see the point now. much rather have a good fight with a decent tailor or shark!

Hahah well same could be said about jigging sambos its backbreaking to an extent, Rays are free to catch unless you get spooled then ouch! Sharks would be nice though even small ones strip line fast love the way they run.

Hey Jezza, any ray can be

Sun, 2010-12-19 14:13

Hey Jezza, any ray can be brought up with the right technique. My uncle used fish for them, at one stage he held the record for the biggest land based one caught. Doesn't matter how heavy line you have, you have to lock up straight away, and turn there heads. This is done by putting the rod horizontal to the ground, other wise you will just get spooled..
