Early morning dive Perth metro area just as the sun’s coming up.

Yeah Paul- it's nice to be able to swim in a straight line again rather than in circles.

rabbit- yeah we saw a couple of dhuies. One was ok but someone left the gun on board?!

I have to ask - Lionfish in metro waters

Wed, 2014-01-22 13:54

Now that really piqued my interest - crays of that size are often tough on the chew, like the smaller ones though they are speccie

lionfish

Yeah was surprised by it as well- hence the reason for the photo. (although not that clear)

came back and looked it up on Wikipedia and says that they are found in the indo-pacific region (say from exmouth upwards). More proof of tropical and northern species migrating to our local waters.

Although not a common sight, Lionfish are not unknown in metro waters. I've been diving since the early eighties and have seen them on numerous occasions.

Lionfish

Lionfish invasion!! they've been everywhere right up along the shore dives for last year or so. A dive at robbs jetty isnt the same without them now. Dived Jurien 6 months back in 20+ metres easily counting 5-10 per dive. not common but still used to see them off metro, but now they are all over the inshore reefs... strange things happening out there last few years.

Some beast crays there!

Noticed you guys have the Pozi catch bag on deck. Got one for chrissy myself! I can't believe i ever dived with anything else. Those things are a dream come true! Just got back today as well, bagged out in 7metres and back on board in 15 minutes. just gotta stuff em in!! so quick n easy!

Big crays! Wouldn't think the lion fish would be moving with the currents, maybe eggs get carried down with the leuwin??

Yep agree- the pozi catch bags are awesome. Easy as to get the crays in without risk of any others getting out!
spring loaded and clip bags are definitely a lot harder to get the big boys in compared to pozi's.

won't be using any other type of bag again.

Nice crays Brett, and good to hear that work is allowing you to get out in the morning - a few things changing around there hey?!

Bloody big boat too - yours or other?

Heading in to town to one of your 'very local drinking holes' on Tuesday arvo around 4:30 - may see you down there... :)
