Each to their own
But for 15kg and Mackie's etc (even small black marlin) TLD25 reel, shimano backbone elite rod, and loaded with 15kg mono. On special and brand new you should get the rod and reel for about $300. They aren't the quickest retrieve ratio, but their probably the most bulletproof budget reel you will ever find.
I caught my p.b Mackie (conservative estimate 25kg) on a tld20 and light rod.

On the money there Scano
I've been collecting TLD's for the last ten or so years. So far I've picked up
5
10
15
20
25
30 2 speed.
Haven't laid a finger on any of them and they're all going strong. The 5 gets used the most oddly enough.
My wife understands why I clean my rods n reels in the shower....

Also agree on TLD 25
There are four TLD 25 rod/reel combos on FB Marketplace right now, (surprisingly all of them are $200).
The first is brand new, complete with unused 15kg PLatypus pretest mono, great buy!

The other 3 in order of condition.

TLDs are pretty bullet proof and very easy to service yourself. Out of the box will give you 4-5kgs of drag at strike before you lose freespool.
Service here:

Upgrade the drag to 9-10kgs and get rid of the tiny handle, Alan Tani's page here, well worth it:

nb: 10kgs pf drag at strike is probably right at the limit of this graphite reel :-)

So that you know
A tyrnos is basically a TLD dressed in drag. Hahaha
you would think their all metal but their actually plastic / graphite side plates, just with a ton cover over the exterior. (On the sides). Their drag system is very similar also, but a bit more drag pressure from the tyrnos. A TLD is half the price, and just as robust.

thanks guys
thanks guys there's some good info there i didnt know. A TLD looks like the way to go with an upgraded handle and maybe drag as well after watching alans tutorial. I might even be able to swap over the busted trynos handle.
appareciate you putting the links together mark

I have a TLD 20 and a Tyrnos
I have a TLD 20 and a Tyrnos 20 ( I think). For the lighter weight I'd go for the TLD for sure. The TLD 20 is a little narrow I reckon so the 25 would be perfect for the use you've got in mind.

good to hear
I picked up the TDL 25 combo that mark posted above for $200 and upgraded the handle to the tyrnos handle i managed to salvage. I may look into uprageding the drag if its worth it.
thanks again
