x mine 4x4s

 Hi there..

I am thinking of buying a troopy that has been in a copper mine in Tassie, I am after a update for my 1990 and would only be using the running gear .. Are there any problems with the parts from underground mining cars... 119.000ks ?? 2006 model.. Any advice would help.. Cheers

Underground? You will

Underground? You will struggle to get it apart in one piece. They are the worst of all mining vehicles.

 5th gear is probably brand

5th gear is probably brand new.  But 1st and 2nd would be very second hand.  Just look out for corrosion!

yep I'm a fitter and have worked UG for 10 years plus....wouldn't touch one if you paid me!!  Gearboxes are locked in lowrange, diffs screw pinions like nothing else, every LV is driven hard on the way up the decline and then there is the salt most UG mines seem to have a problem with.

I've seen utes 2 years old that have been through a gearbox, 2 diff centres, 6 driveshafts, cylinder head and countless CVs.....

from what i saw of vehicles

from what i saw of vehicles in beaconsfield, wouldnt even contemplate it.

for WA cars, wouldnt even dream of the idea of picking up a UG vehicle.

Those 119000km will be mostly in low range, so its all been run at high revs and highly stressed

As Keg said most underground vehicles get about 60'000k's at best well at the underground mine I work at anyway.  That includes the V8 troopys

thanks guys

Was hoping the running gear would be OK, tink I will get a low k 1hz motor then look for low k g/box. Would have been good to change all gear to 2005, but not crap that's been through that, what happened to looking after the running gear every 5000ks ? Thanks again... Daz

 Yeah mate I work underground

Yeah mate I work underground and I wouldn't dream of purchasing an ex mine vehicle. They get flogged hard usually with heavy loads on the tray, everything underneath from diffs to suspension to cv joints are rooted. There's landcruisers up here with less than 20k on the clock that are in need of constant work. Do yourself a favour and stay away from them!
