My next door neighbour has bought a tinnie with a pull start 40hp 2-stroke yamaha on the back. on the outboard there are two wires coming out from the top, with what looks like battery terminals these were just laying in the boat when he bought it.....
engine starts and runs without them. any ideas....... anyone. im not an electrician and wouldnt advise, so i thought id throw it on here.
thanks for any advice.

Wires
i think these may be so you can run a battery on board, although you are pull start these wires will connect to a battery to charge it so you can run accessories.

If it has a rectifier /
If it has a rectifier / regulator installed it is used to charge a battery, not quite as good as an alternator, more of a trickle charge if it doesnt have a regulato fitted it is more for running accesories, google will be able to explain more
