Yanchep Lagoon
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2008-01-22 14:28
I am planning to head up to Yanchep on Friday for day fish. Just wondered if anyone else had similar plans.
I am also wondering if anyone has been up there recently and if it has been very crowded?
Many thanks Colin Hay

Hi Steve
Sorry Steve, what do you mean by dead? Not many people, or not much good? The blue house, than s for that. I have some good reef shoes, have to rig up a reef bag. Would one of those coles type green recyclable shopping bags do.
Thanks for the info, Colin

Steve muchos gracias
Thanks for all the great info. I will pick up a bag when I grab some bait tomorrow.
One more question, is the blue house at the Perth end of the reef?
Had a look on the Google satellite. There was one big blue house by itself in line with the northern end of the reef. Couldn't tell the colour of the houses at the Perth end.
Thanks again, Colin

Might hit the actual lagoon,
Might hit the actual lagoon, but more likely to move up and down the reef ledge towards the left of the lagoon:) so more than likely to miss the crowds. We'll hope that nobody else goes for the early morning fish:P

Not much happening at Yanchep
BenY and I made our way up to Yanchep Lagoon this morning. Arrived about 7 am and found a solid crowd of fisherpeople lined up along the reef. Made our way to the Perth end of the reef and spotted the Blue House. It was a popular spot, with a few people already taking up that position. We moved about 25 yards further down the reef into what looked a pretty good spot.
Tried some plastics for awhile and had no interest, so I switched to unweighted mulies. Got a good hit first cast and thought we were in for a good session. But alas, that was about it for me. There were no tailor to be seen anywhere, though there were a few herring about.
Ben tied on his secret whiting weapon and started to pull in some small school whiting on a regular basis and quickly built up a nice collection of baits for the next time he heads out in a boat.
All in all, while the fishing was pretty low key it was a beautiful morning, the company was good and the experience of fishing Yanchep Lagoon for the first time means I will be better prepared next time I head up that way.
It certainly looks a fishy place and the northern end looks like it would be a good spot for mulloways in the evenings.
Thanks for a good morning Ben and the secret whiting rig.

Yeah it was a great morning Colin
Nothing nicer than being out in the fresh air on a beautiful morning. All we needed was a couple of tailor. There is always next time.

Yep not much action there
Yep not much action there when we went up, some guys said they got into some tailor but i wasn't sure what i heard:P
Lots of herring was pulled in but i was out there for the whiting since i didn't feel the tailor tickle when we got there. I reckon a nice late afternoon into night fish would yield some nice results at that place:)
Nice meeting up with you Colin and see ya for the second time!
fish again soon!
Cheers,
Ben

Not sure if there is much happening at the moment
Definately look forward to having another go sometime Ben. I don't know if anyone else has found the landbased fishing has been a bit quiet the last few days. Went to Mindarie last night and there wasn't much happening there either. Not even many blue mannas and it has been alive with them there lately.
Possibly its the moons and the tides. Not much movement tide wise.
Has anyone had any l/b success around Perth over the last few days.
All the best Colin Hay
