The year that was 2011

2011 was awesome, I had some of the best worst wettest driest flattest roughest most awesome and crappiest days fishing but would not change any of them. I caught and lost some of the best fish of my life this year. One thing I can say is that if you put in enough time you will get the rewards.

The two best trip are below:

1. best fishing trip was a 3 day run to Coral Bay

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/coral-bay-3-day-adventure

2. most insipring trip of my life a week in the Kimberley (another one coming April 2012)

Hope you guys and Gals add to this post with your best from 2011, dont care if you were catching herring for shore or GT's at the Monties. Share those times that gave you that feeling of being alive!!! After all thats what this website is all about.

Hope you all get inspired and start planning your next trip. Merry Christmas

2011 - The good and the bad

Fri, 2011-12-23 06:49

2011 has had its highs and lows for me.  I began the year doing cert 3 Outdoor Rec - Multiple Activities (Marine) at Challenger Tafe.

Plenty of squid, whiting, herring caught in Cockburn sound. Turned 30 in March, Finished studying in July on a saturday and was on my way to Exmouth for 5 weeks work experience guiding Kayak tours on the monday morning. One of the greatest experiences in my life being in a place like Exmouth and for the first time doing what I wanted to do for a living.

After Exmouth, I came back to Perth and got two jobs to make money to go to Canada next year and chase the dream. Went to Jurien for a day out with Whitey in October for my Fathers 60th Birthday.

I also broke the boat trailer http://fishwrecked.com/forum/trailer-reborn and have only just finished it and had the first run on the water on Tuesday leading to 14 crabs, two squid and 8 sand whiting.

R.I.P Brent Glew - Killed on a minesite earlier this year.  Brent was my nextdoor neighbour as a kid and though I hadnt seen him in years it shook me up. Both the kids I grew up with as neighbours are now dead, one from a car crash back in 2000 and now Brent.

R.I.P Rob Hunter - Perth Hip Hop legend from the SBX Crew passed away from Cancer a few months ago at age 36.  I used to work with his partner Laura years back when they had their son Marley.  http://huntersbx.com/

To JRD at Roeburn Prison - I hope things are going ok for you and the whole family is going to miss you on Sunday cuz.  Wish you were here.

My Year Summarised

Fri, 2011-12-23 10:30

Highlights were, getting our new dog (Bardi), growing 2 euro kangas through to release (coolest dudes ever as a few of you know), cracking the deep on jigs and bait for rubes and GB, spearing the Islands on glassy glass days with good mates and cold beers, Montes Trip for Brad's farewell, Whale watching in the gulf, camping trips, a crazy trip to Vietnam, another successful FW comp and the list goes on.  Here's a few that summaise my year.

Year 2011 as it was............

Fri, 2011-12-23 16:20

Been a good year here.

Dont think I need to spruke the Kimberely because it's the last wilderness on the planet

Here's some pictures from the years journey

Plenty of river to explore (lower Ord)

The Keep

Plenty of willing Barra, although the Big Girls play hard

Options galore from river to the ocean

Dicks Creek NT

Victoria River, NT

The Lyne River

90cm of silver saltwater Barra

Cape Domet and beyond.....

Upgrading the Boat to explore more of the Kimberley

Noble 5.1 side console and Minn Kota 24V i-pilot

Fishing with mates

POC and crew

Watching the gurus get smashed

Yep that's POC's 'she destroyed me' look......ha ha

New species

Black Jew on jig

Finkermark parties

Testing tackle 'POC plastics'

Amazing sunsets

And sunrises ........ heading into the unknown

Wildlife abounds

Exploring on foot or by car

Dog in tow

Sometimes it's just to much for some.........

But I think this picture sums it up

Peace, tranquilty, serenity, open wide, blue skies, glass conditions, spot lock and .......................

I wouldn't wana be anywhere else

Many more trips planned for 2012

great thread CCC.  Your Kimberley report  http://fishwrecked.com/forum/dream-comes-true-now-pics   must be one of the best reports I've read.  I spent January and a couple of weeks in April in and around One Arm Point and can't wait to see more of that magnificent country.
