Yellow fins and Yellow tails
Submitted by beau on Thu, 2021-11-18 12:40
Well summer is nearly upon us and that means Yellow is the flavour of the month. Had some great sessions in the Peel and Metro regions this week, with yellowfin and yellowtails coming in thick and fast. Sizes of both species being quite exceptional in my experiences, numerous plump yellowfin including a few more than normal over 35cm and over 10 yellowtails at an average size of a metre and some well over.
Dont let the ban hold you back!
Enjoy some pics and videos.

Yeah mate, got a similar size one on stickbait a few weeks ago. Missed the hooks on 2 yesterday and one good follow on popper. The poppers go well on the change of light in my experience

Gday Beau, do you mind if I
Gday Beau, do you mind if I send you a pm mate ? I make my own unique timber fizzer lures adapted for pelagics, reefies etc (Scottys lures - facebook) and would love for you try a couple of prototypes on some YTK, tailor, tuna. I make a couple of 120mm - 45g & 100mm - 40g body length and smaller 80 & 60mm models for barra, jacks etc.
They are an absolutely fun lure to use as they bring another element and technique to top water fishing that alot of fish have never seen before and have been doing well in northern WA, on the east coast and the Cook Islands and I really can't see why they would not work here in Perth.
Everything is very brand new at the moment and it would be great if you would like to test a couple.
Cheers
Scotty

With the stickbait I was using I use a walk the dog action at a medium pace. My brother using the cup face popper was doing quite a violent pop pause pop action quite quick too.
Davewillo you can definitely catch them coastal in Perth, my first whiting on popper 9 years ago was a lazy 32cm yellowfin caught at Kwinana beach. Shoalwater/Safety Bay area is going to be your best bet outside of Peel on surface lures.
Im going to start experimenting around the Secret Harbour surf beaches with the ZX40 blade, I think its going to do well.
Cheers Scotty looking forward to getting home and having the package arrive.
Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Yeah that's one of the areas
Yeah that's one of the areas I was thinking about Andy. I used to target flatties on fly on the west side of Point Resolution in Dalkeith and do really well. Water's not right there for whiting I don't think. I might give the river a try once the weather heats up a bit more.

Very hard to catch but not
Very hard to catch but not impossible. There's absoolute stonkers on the Rocky Bay sandbank but good luck. I've chucked my whole collection at them including vibes and minnow divers

What sort of depth Frosty?
What sort of depth Frosty? Can you wade at low tide or is that from the boat? I've walked on that at times but not when it was low enough to popper for whiting.
