 After coming up short last

Sun, 2018-10-14 06:20

After coming up short last year with only a 17kg fish, I managed to land this beast yesterday while downrigging in 3 metres of water.

It weighed in at 42kg and put up an epic fight considering it was foul hooked.

No not a typo mate was in 3

No not a typo mate was in 3 metres as had live squid on, normally balloon in this depth but wanted to prospect and cover more ground.

Hooked it 20 metres from shore and managed to lead it out into 10 metres. Was caught out of Whyalla SA.

Yes wasn’t an easy fight in shallow water and being foul hooked. Was caught on a quantum Cabo 80 loaded with 50lb braid on a Samaki absinthe PE6.

Gday Pirate, nah my mates

Sun, 2018-10-14 13:04

Gday Pirate, nah my mates boat. Won’t be getting another one til I get back to Perth in 12-24 months. Will be looking to get something around 23-25 feet with an inboard diesel like the seaswirl striper I had and planning to use it up north more for extended trips offshore. Will have to hit up the mullas with you when I get back!!!

I haven't seen a Kingi that size since I use to spearfish in NZ back in the late 60's, bugger I miss those days.

I'm guessing now the Pt Augusta power station has been shut down the big beasts are still roaming the gulf but more wide spread...

Top effort mate, SA is a very under rated fishing destination IMO....
