I tried attaching every sinker I have to the release weight but it wouldnt go down, almost lost all my sinkers when they unhooked from the fish.
Found out that a Spheros 14000 cant reel up over 100 oz of lead, had to pull it up by hand, ended up tangling all my braid. By the the time I sorted that out the fish had floated away, we went looking for it but couldnt see it, hopefully it went back down.
That one made you smile mate. Good fish. Have seen many a big Cod out from Exmouth including one bigger than that trolling XRaps at speed. They really get your heart rate up when they take off. At least you tried to get him back down. Great fish Simo and good to see you smiling.

what a horse mate. too bad about the release though!
ya look a tad green, did ya take your pills? LOL
starting to get a good spread of captures there mate well done.
There is a lot of reasons not to puncture and infection getting into the central areas of a fish is the one I would be concerned about. Like opening your head and letting bugs into your "meninges". Meningitis is not fun and neither is peritonitis which is a infection of your belly, which is what they get.
IMO try to revive, release weight and if this fails you have tried your best. What saddens me is that these fish have to drift off and not be "used" as food etc. If it is captured on camera, video and other modern technos drifters is sad.
I wouldnt risk it but sometimes I think that if everything is tried responsible fishos should be able to keep these otherwise dead fish.
I consider myself as very responsible with our fish and just would like a feel for this sad topic. Sorry Simo sort of drifted off your Fantastic Cod
Magical fish there simo you have really been gettin stuck into some Quality with a capital Q fish of late bud... nice codlet there shame about the release heres hoping it did go down.. good work on the effort in trying to get it down but alot of ppl would have just left it float off... keep them pics coming mate

Cheers

yep gotta be careful with those big cod.
I wonder if puncturing the bladder would increase the survival rate to these fish that are too big for a release weight??

IMO if you tried to revive that is all that count. It is a trophy of a fish and from my experience it is probably back down with its mates.

Dont fret Adam
I have a good source of pingers that can supply me with that spot. But rest assured, I'll keep it secret unless people are prepared to pay for it.
