Great stuff Simon. May I ask what sort of gear you're using. Stand-up/Chair, 50/80/130s? Interested to know. Most of the guys here will only fish with 130s loaded with 200lb for big fish. I've been fishing with 50lb most of the time and certainly have lost quite a few big fish. Wish I'd gone the 80lb or 100lb option right from the start, more fish would have made it to the boat if I had of.
Soupy - only run 50 standup. Probably a confidence/experience thing. This was our first time not running any 15kg outfits. To be honest I am not strong enough to fish 37kg standup properly. We tend to let the first run end then go to sunset and chase hard. Obviously we have been lucky and not hit any really big boys but we tend to stay under 200m.
Hah don't be lulled into thinking you won't hit any big girls in shallow , we got smoked on 80 by a fish every bit of 350kg in 50 mtrs of water coming around the front of the lighthouse on C-Wirthy , that was an eye opener , you've heard the phrase " I think were gonna need a bigger boat LOL" well that was when we started fishing nothing under 80....and we still get spanked !!
Yeah goatch I know it's coming, we hit a big blue out at the ledge a few years back when we were dumb enough to troll Stella's with braid. Hit short rigger, still remember it clear as day, mate had just said "look how good that rigger is swimming" turned to see a blue come from about 50m away and smash it. Emptied the reel in about 10seconds and thank god the hook pulled. I'm sure we will start trolling 37 next year now we are comfortable handling some 150-200kg models

great work!
great work!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
