1st drop on the Gemini

1st drop on the Gemini

Got to the Gem at about 8.00am and had a sound around located a small school on the eastern end and 1st drop with a 100g jig, hooked up and about 2 seconds later SNAP! was not to happy
Hopefully I will get my money back on the reel as it is the second time it has happened!

The Gem was very quiet, 6 other boats fishing and while we were there 1 ray was caught and that is all, tried drift baiting, jigging, patternostering...

Funny

Sorry Dean, but that pic struck me funny.

What pound braid are you running on the reel and was the drag in good condition i.e. is it sticky at start up?

John

This is exactly the same

Sun, 2007-10-07 22:54

This is exactly the same problem I am having with this reel, the store which I bought it from refuses to believe that it broke without miss use, it was hookup and a few seconds later snap, the first time it broke was a 5kg pinky and broke in almost the same place, just a weak point in the reel.

The reel is pfeugar contender and running 60lb tuffline xp, which was recommended by the store, and the guy selling it said he used one at exy on GT's to 20kgs.  The reel has been maintained very well and used a handful of times and is the second time it has broke there, the drag was running at under 7kg's and is very smooth, caught about 10 fish on it.

All rod holders on the boat have stoppers on the end to stop the reel touching them, and while moving they are stored horizontally in rod holders which have foam around to stop this from happening and we even wrap a tea towel around the reels just incase.

Will let you know how I go with getting my money back, $160 not well spent!

Cheers
Dean

Maybe it shouldn't be called a "contender" I think it should be called "Kamakzi" real.

My reels screaming zzzzzzz.... awwww damn it, its another boat!

All the best for the future fishing trips.

pfhlueger spin reel

Mon, 2007-10-08 07:32

http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/reel-split.php

looking at this site and all the reels only one reel that is made for 25lb. That was the highest rated one, so 65lb maybe over rated no matter what the tackle store said.

Yeah probably right jimbo,

Yeah probably right jimbo, though they recommended that line so they screwed up!  And this has happened twice so you would think that they would notice the line being to high after fixing it the first time and apparently they had the rep in to look at it aswell.

Taking it back today and hopefully will get another reel, otherwise shit will hit the fan!

I've sold plenty and had only "one" back. The amount that's sold versus returned is bugger all and all makes/models have returns for that matter. Dean, your coming down this way on Saturday anyway so if it's any help i'll replace it at no charge even though you got it elsewhere....happy to help mate!

Yeah thanks ryan i really do

Mon, 2007-10-08 22:13

Yeah thanks ryan i really do appreciate that, and it sounds like more than the store I bought it from is going to do!  too bad your service isn't the same elsewhere.

Brought it back to the store today and told them I was unhappy with the reel and wanted a refund/store credit, well that ain't going to happen so the guy is gonna talk to the rep and see what he can do, first thing he said was "did you drop it"?  So I will let you know sometime this week whats going on about it, need a working reel to put on that jig rod ;)

It was running 60lb tuffline, and while on the gem hooked up and I had the drag set high but not full and it broke, so pretty much a replica of the first time.  The guy in the store recons he goes up north and catches GT's on them, and has no probs so maybe i've got a dud.

Ryan do you know what line they are rated for?  Looks like I will have to take off the 60lb and put on 30lb, just seems strange that the reel broke at a drag setting the reel is supposed to handle.

Cheers

No probs mate and thanks for the compliment! The real is a 30lb reel but can hangle 50lb, you can push it to 65lb but stay away from lock up stuff which i never recommend anyway. I'll have that new jig rod here by then also, catcha then!
