Awoonga barra

Awoonga barra

88cm freshwater impoundment barra i caught today, was near cyclonic conditions although you cant tell from the pic because we were hiding in a little bay. We managed a few other hits and one hook up however we were busted off in the timber by a jumping barra around the same size. Cant complain, at least i still managed a fish

Good work Brad, yep have to agree; looks pretty cyclonic...

Three days without it and I get a little jumpy

Healthy looking fish mate.  Tell us a bit about the dam, are they deep, snaggy, holes?  Don't know much about impoundments.

yeah mate, all of the above would like to spend some time here with the right conditions would be a lot of fun. Caught this one trolling a +15 gold classic 120 accross a submerged rock gutter that drops from about 5 - 9 meters.

Hi Brad

Were you with a guide? I have seen a few shows recently where they have been fishing in the impoundments and they have been catching amazing fish - all with a local guide. I was wondering though if you can take your own boat or fish landbased on your own.

nah colin i wasnt with a guide, i figured i know enough about barra to at least get a fish plus i was only out about 2 hours and most of the guided trips are a min of 8 hours for around a grand for the boat. Will spend some more time here next holliday actually doing a bit more fishing. Yes you can take your own boat on the lake, i took my old mans quinny hornet and yes you can land base it in a few spots i got a nice fish last time i was here off the shore, pictures attached

Adam the dam is MASSIVE! heaps of room to fish. A bloke landed a 76cm mangrove jack the other day too, pretty impresive!

I have been thinking of giving an impoundment a go the next time I am over that way on business and I was hoping you could do your own thing - especially after seeing some of the fish you caught. Appreciate the info mate.
