Buff

Buff

This is my buff bream from yesterday at hillaries. not huge, but my biggest for the year so far and gave a hell of a fight! guess at just above 2kg.

Mon, 2011-02-14 13:36

When i caught one couple years ago and got a japanese chef to carve it up raw and prep it just for the hell of it, my opinion along with another person eating it "Better then Tuna" if there was tuna sashimi infront of me now or buff bream sashimi i would take the buff bream.

Honestly i dont know why you bother...

Tue, 2011-02-15 09:21

I cant see why you would bother eating buff bream personally :/ I understand they are very good fun to catch, especially on light gear, we were getting them on prawns back at home. But they dont even make good cray bait :/ So yeah.. Still i guess each to their own...

Little ones are quite edible

Sun, 2015-07-12 10:31

Anything over a couple of kilos are just inedible. As with all the weedeaters with black lining in the stomach you need to skin them and cut the stomach cavity out. Works for banded sweep, zebra fish, black drummer, small buffs. How do i know? well, when you are camping bush in remote parts of South Australia and only have a light rod to feed yourself from, you get to try everything  Banded sweep would be the pick of that lot--skinless boneless fillets fried in butter, yum. had a lot of fun with that little old sidecast, 9lb mono and the 7 ft jarvis walker solid glass rod tossing unweighted bits of whatever i could scrape off the rocks as bait. Especially when a 28 inch long pinkie took the bait--what would that be, 70cm? Now THAT was a fight, which I won.
