Hi guys, first post and just testing out the photo posting. This is a GT I caught off a shallow wreck near Cairns. They always seem to feel heavier when you've just pulled them out of structure!

Thats unreal mate! What gear did you use to catch him on? Looks all of 25kg + Awesome catch, take it was on popper?

I'd love to say it was a popper but nothing quite that exciting. Taken on a live hussar drifted into the wreck on 24kg mono. Still, they straighten the arms however you catch them. There's a couple of spots up here where you can reliably catch GT's like that.

Awesome all the same, still a fish that gives you curry regardless of the method caught.
What else do you regularly get into up Cairns way? (apart from the marlin)

Probably Coral Trout is the
Probably Coral Trout is the main target out on the reef, though we also get a lot of Tuna (most varieties), Spaniards, Reds (at night) and anything else that lives on the reef. Just waiting for another chance to get into them (damn cyclones!)

Great Fish
About an 85% photo tho!
Againnot to criticise but to try and help for the next one!
With verticle shots allow room across the top for a magazine masthead, and room down one side (usually the left) for a list of contents!
The scenery and fish in that shot are worthy of covershot publication except for just a couple things might have improved it!
The clouds / islands in the back are great - fantastioc scenery back drop!
So had the boat swung to port about 30 degrees - move the angler so bow, rop and anchor well oare out of scene, compose with angler fish occupying right 2/3rd and bottom 2/3 of photo and you almost have a cover shot.
Lose the sunnies, use a fill flash to remove the shadown down around the head of fish, and or push head of fish with knee forward so it is in full sun - especially that fish eye!
Damn good catch - very good photo!
Photo could do with the suggested improvements next time!
Please don't take this as criticism of the catch, just consrtructive criticism of the actual photo effort to improve same next time!

fish pics are great when you spend some time setting them up, it certainly brings back good memories when you are no longer in that idealic location and you look back.
