Plastic Used

Mon, 2010-11-29 06:44

Hi Criddle,

This one will make you laugh. I used a buck tail jig (4oz) on the Saturday and had all the feathering ripped off by small critters probaly charlie courts. I only had the white jig & a 7/0 hook left.

Looked into the tackle box and found a Big Plastic Squid. I cut the tip of the squid threaded it over the hook and attached it to the jig body using PE5 Braid and using an Under & Over Knot locking it into place.

So the jig became an "Abeldog Special"

A white buck tail jig with a pink squid jig.

i know what you mean about

Mon, 2010-11-29 06:51

i know what you mean about getting John started. good for a bit of a laugh tho. one thing about John is he knows his fish and if he doesnt he grabs the book and has a look. How did the dhuie taste as i have heard that the dhuies that get caught that far up arent as good on the tooth. this came from a bloke in shark bay that has taken a few out at steep point

 goes way back when someone

Mon, 2011-04-11 15:47

goes way back when someone got a small dhuie and no pic . everyone was saying it wouldnt have been a dhuie but a pearl perch instead as dhuies dont get caught up in carnarvon. but here is the proof of such things.

OK got it

Tue, 2011-04-12 12:12

Well for my cents worth that is definetley a Dhu and not a pearl perch. Simple: to big for a pearl, stripe through eyes is a dead giveaway, no Pearling on gills as mentioned in the thread.

Stripe thru the eye and no "pearl" on the gill plate....IMHO

I thought the same

Wed, 2011-04-13 07:21

but one of my mates went on a live about charter out from Carnarvon 3yrs ago and they fished around the islands and caught about 5-6 Dhuies along with all the northern species. Not sure but I think that area could be there northern limit.

ill have to believe it

Sun, 2011-04-17 18:21

ill have to believe it then... but all I know is ive lived here for the past 6 years and fished both the islands and gnaraloo pretty regularly and never seen/ heard of any, except for this usual pearl perch thing that crops up from time to time.

that being said, Ive only caught one dhuie years ago, so not the best authority to id this one

the carnarfin fishing comp doesnt have a section for them, and whats more in the history of the comp theres never been one brought in.

although that being said- theyre a couple of members on here that are a lot more local than me and will now kick the soapbox out from under me and put me

back in my box now...

good to stir up a bit of controvery anyway!

Well there's no wire fence

Sun, 2011-04-17 19:42

Well there's no wire fence stopping them from swimming up that way same as the Mackies swim down here ;)

Hey Guys

Sun, 2011-04-17 20:12

when I caught this fantastic Dhui on a homemade bucktail jig, you should have heard the noise on the boat when he came into view.

Read the post titled "I Luv Koks" refering to Koks island with more pictures and story.

I was also of the same opinion that Dhuies were not caught that far up, but as we have seen over the last few months,

Marlin off Dunsborough, Record Mackies in Perth, etc etc

The ocean has no boundaries, get into deep water and it's a Lucky Dip.

Look forward to more of your diving catches.

I still dream about that monster coral trout your caught.

A legal size coral trout is still on the bucket list.

Maybe the forthcoming Abrolhos trip will do it.
