Qld groper

Tue, 2005-09-13 07:29

mate the only groper in that photo is mitch,i spent quite some time on line fishing boats all through the great barrier reef and have seen a lot of groper, and i reckon that a groper is just a big cod ,we use to feed them all of our shark bait as we could not put the shark line in if there was a big groper and i say groper because these guys were all between the 150kg to 300kg mark and they warrent being called so,but i am interested in hearing if there is a difference between them .

thanks for the reply salmo,
i have asked a few questions since i posted that last comment and the general reply is that there not real sure but all agree that once a certan breeds of cod reach the right length they are then classed as a groper and become protected.
which i think is great and do not agree with anyone trying to catch these great creatures.
they should be left to there own.
